What jobs pay 500,000 a year in the US?

High-paying jobs that can reach or exceed $500,000 annually in the US often include executive roles such as CEOs, CFOs, and other C-suite positions, as well as specialized professions like top-tier surgeons, investment bankers, and successful entrepreneurs. These roles typically require extensive experience, advanced skills, and often involve leadership, high responsibility, or performance-based bonuses.

What is the difference between Direct Sourcing vs Contract Staffing?

AspectDirect SourcingContract Staffing
Candidate SelectionHires candidates directly from the talent pool or through employer brandingEngages candidates via staffing agencies or third-party providers for temporary roles
Employer ControlFull control over hiring process and onboardingLimited control, managed by staffing agencies
DurationTypically permanent positionsTemporary or project-based roles
Cost StructureHigher upfront costs, benefits, and onboarding expensesLower initial costs, pay-as-you-go model

In summary, Direct Sourcing involves hiring candidates directly for permanent roles, giving employers greater control and long-term investment. Contract Staffing, on the other hand, is suited for temporary needs, managed through staffing agencies, offering flexibility and lower costs. Both methods serve different hiring strategies depending on organizational needs.

What is direct sourcing in recruitment?

Direct sourcing is a hiring strategy where companies use their own resources and employer brand to identify and engage potential candidates, rather than relying solely on third-party staffing agencies. This approach often includes building talent pools, leveraging employee referrals, and using technology to proactively connect with qualified candidates. Direct sourcing can help organizations reduce hiring costs, improve candidate quality, and create a more consistent employer brand experience. It is commonly used for filling both permanent and contingent workforce needs.

How does direct sourcing work?

Direct sourcing is a recruitment method where companies identify and engage potential candidates directly, often using talent pools, social media, or sourcing tools, without relying on third-party agencies. It allows organizations to build relationships with candidates and streamline the hiring process. Recruiters and HR professionals typically use applicant tracking systems (ATS) and sourcing platforms to manage this approach.

Can you get into procurement with no experience?

Direct sourcing roles in procurement often require some knowledge of supply chain management and negotiation skills, but entry-level positions may be available for candidates with little to no experience if they demonstrate strong organizational abilities and a willingness to learn. Gaining relevant certifications or training can improve chances of entry. Many companies offer on-the-job training for new hires in procurement roles.

Is sourcing a stressful job?

Direct sourcing can be stressful due to the need to meet hiring deadlines, identify qualified candidates, and manage client or employer expectations. It often requires strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills to handle high workloads and fast-paced environments.

How does a Direct Sourcing professional typically collaborate with hiring managers and talent acquisition teams?

Direct Sourcing professionals work closely with hiring managers and talent acquisition teams to understand workforce needs, define candidate requirements, and ensure alignment throughout the recruitment process. They often take a consultative approach, providing market insights, sharing candidate pipelines, and facilitating feedback loops. Regular meetings and transparent communication are essential, as Direct Sourcing specialists act as a bridge between external talent pools and internal stakeholders to fill roles efficiently and maintain high-quality candidate experiences.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Direct Sourcing Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Direct Sourcing Specialist, you need expertise in talent acquisition, candidate sourcing strategies, and a solid understanding of the industry or roles you are hiring for, typically supported by experience in recruitment or human resources. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), sourcing tools like LinkedIn Recruiter, and sometimes certifications such as AIRS or SHRM-CP are valuable. Strong interpersonal skills, effective communication, and the ability to build relationships with candidates and hiring managers set top performers apart. These skills ensure efficient identification and engagement of top talent, leading to successful placements and supporting organizational hiring goals.

Job description

Stratasys is a world leader in 3D printing!

Stratasys is leading the global shift to additive manufacturing with innovative 3D printing solutions for industries such as aerospace, automotive, consumer products and healthcare. Through smart and connected 3D printers, polymer materials, a software ecosystem, and parts on demand, Stratasys solutions deliver competitive advantages at every stage in the product value chain. The world's leading organizations turn to Stratasys to transform product design, bring agility to manufacturing and supply chains, and improve patient care.

The Manager, Direct Commodity leads the team of Commodity Managers responsible for the global sourcing of direct materials, including electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, and related production commodities. This role sets the overarching direct spend sourcing strategy, builds and develops the commodity management team, and is accountable for cost, quality, supply assurance, and supplier innovation across the direct commodity portfolio. Partnering with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Finance, the manager drives year-over-year savings, mitigates supply risk, and aligns sourcing strategy with product roadmaps and business objectives. The position owns talent development, performance management, and capability-building for the commodity team.

What you will be doing:

Direct Spend Sourcing Strategy & Cost Leadership

  • Set and govern the multi-year sourcing strategy for the direct commodity portfolio, owning annual cost-reduction targets, consolidated negotiations, and long-term agreements (LTAs) across commodities
  • Drive should-cost discipline, supplier rationalization, and total-cost-of-ownership optimization. Report savings, supply risks, and supplier performance to senior leadership, and align sourcing strategy with product roadmaps

Team Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Commodity Managers, including goal setting, performance management, and career development
  • Allocate commodity ownership, balance workload, and establish consistent sourcing processes, tools, and standards across the team
  • Build a high-performing, accountable, and collaborative organization aligned to Stratasys values

Supplier & Cross-Functional Management

  • Own strategic supplier relationships and executive business reviews, and lead the escalation and resolution of major supply risks such as allocations, end-of-life, and capacity constraints
  • Partner with Engineering on NPI and design-for-cost, with Quality on supplier performance, and with Operations and Finance on planning and budgets to ensure uninterrupted supply of direct materials across manufacturing

Must have for this role:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business or a related field
  • 8+ years of progressive procurement, strategic sourcing, or commodity management experience, including direct-spend (production) commodities such as electrical, mechanical, and electromechanical
  • 2+ years of people-leadership experience managing sourcing or commodity professionals, with a demonstrated ability to develop talent and build high-performing teams
  • Proven track record leading portfolio-level negotiations and long-term agreements, delivering year-over-year cost savings, and presenting to senior leadership; strong proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, or equivalent) and Microsoft Excel

Nice to have:

  • Master's degree (MBA or Supply Chain) or equivalent advanced education
  • Experience leading sourcing across multiple direct commodities in a manufacturing, hardware, or electronics-driven industry
  • Professional certification such as CPSM, C.P.M., or APICS/CPIM
