Digital Engagement Manager
Reports to: Director of Institutional Advancement
Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt; primarily on-site
Salary Range: $70,000$75,000 annually
Forever Balboa Park is the nonprofit conservancy dedicated to enhancing and helping
maintain all 1,200 acres of Balboa Park. From caring for the Parks gardens and urban forest to
greeting thousands of guests at the Visitors Center and info booths, our staff and more than
450 volunteers work year-round to ensure Balboa Park remains a natural place of wonder for all
who visit.
Position Summary:
The Digital Engagement Manager plays a key role in advancing Forever Balboa Parks
mission to improve and advance Balboa Park so people, nature and culture thrive together, by
leading the organizations digital communications and engagement efforts. This position is
responsible for translating the organizations priorities including fundraising initiatives, park
improvement projects, and community engagement into compelling digital messaging that
connects with supporters and the broader public.
Reporting to the Director of Institutional Advancement, the Digital Engagement Manager
oversees the organizations digital platforms, including website content, email marketing, and
social media. This role works closely with colleagues across departments to plan and execute
digital campaigns that increase awareness, strengthen donor relationships, and inspire
philanthropic support for Balboa Park.
While the position will collaborate with copywriters, designers, and other creative partners as
needed, strong writing and editing skills are essential. The Digital Engagement Manager
ensures that messaging across digital channels is clear, mission-driven, and tailored to engage
online audiences.
Key Responsibilities
Social Media Digital Content
Manage and schedule content across Forever Balboa Parks social media channels.
Create and coordinate engaging digital content including graphics, photography, short-
form video, and written storytelling to highlight the organizations impact.
Develop strategies and budget recommendations for social ads or boosting as
appropriate.
Provide monthly social media performance reporting.
Email Marketing Supporter Communications
Plan, write, and execute email marketing campaigns to engage prospective donors,
members, volunteers, and community supporters.
Coordinate audience segmentation and email lists in collaboration with the Institutional
Advancement team.
Track and analyze performance metrics such as open rates, click-through rates, and
conversions to inform future campaigns.
Website Digital Platforms
Maintain and update Forever Balboa Parks website, ensuring content remains current,
accurate, and aligned with organizational priorities.
Support digital fundraising and donor engagement efforts through website content and
online campaign tools.
Digital Strategy Audience Engagement
Develop and implement digital engagement strategies that support Forever Balboa
Parks fundraising initiatives, programs, and organizational priorities.
Translate institutional goals and park improvement projects into compelling digital
messaging and storytelling.
Monitor digital engagement metrics and adjust strategies to strengthen audience growth
and supporter engagement.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration
Work closely with the Institutional Advancement team to support fundraising campaigns,
donor communications, and stewardship initiatives.
Collaborate with staff across the organization to ensure consistent messaging across
digital platforms.
Partner with copywriters, designers, photographers, and other contractors to produce
high-quality digital content when needed.
Qualifications and Skills
35 years of experience in digital marketing, communications, or nonprofit engagement.
Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to tailor messaging for digital
audiences.
Experience managing email marketing campaigns, social media platforms, and website
content.
Ability to create visually engaging digital content using tools such as Canva, Adobe, or
similar platforms.
Proficiency managing website content through a content management system (such as
WordPress).
Ability to interpret engagement metrics and use data to inform strategy.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail, an ability to manage multiple projects
simultaneously, and a commitment to meeting deadlines.
Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across teams.
Preferred Skills:
Familiarity with the mission and initiatives of Forever Balboa Park and its partners.
Experience supporting fundraising or donor engagement campaigns through digital
channels.
Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
