Candidate Summary

Altimmune is seeking an Associate Director, R&D Finance, to serve as the primary finance lead for the MASH Phase 3 program, reporting to the Vice President, Finance. The candidate will be responsible for overseeing all finance, operational finance, and related finance activities for the MASH Phase 3 trial and related trials. This role will be the point of contact for the global CRO, the Controller, and the VP Head of Global MASH Program. This role requires a seasoned, strong background in financial management of large Phase 3 global clinical trials within the publicly listed biopharmaceutical industry.

Key Responsibilities

MASH Clinical Finance & R&D Lead

  • Lead all MASH trials clinical trial budgeting, forecasting, and accrual analysis, including CRO costs incurred v invoiced, investigator grants, patient costs, and pass-through expenses.
  • Monitor clinical program costs versus plan, identifying risks, opportunities, and timing impacts.
  • Partner with Clinical Operations, Program Management, CMC, and Accounting to ensure accurate forecasting, spend visibility, and financial close alignment.
  • Review, evaluate, and support CMC, CRO, and clinical vendor agreements, including study budgets, change orders, and contract amendments, to ensure cost efficiency, appropriate risk sharing, and alignment with Finance & Accounting.
  • Provide financial diligence on clinical vendor proposals, assessing pricing structures, payment terms, scope assumptions, and financial risks in partnership with Legal, Program Management, and Clinical Operations.

Performance Management

  • Enhance financial transparency and decision support through operational and financial data analytics, reporting, and executive-ready materials.
  • Recommend actions to improve cost discipline, forecast accuracy, and resource utilization.

Process & Systems

  • Lead enhancements to FP&A processes, models, and planning tools as it relates to clinical trial finances.
  • Drive best practices in program-level forecasting, scenario planning, and financial reporting.
  • Partner with Finance and IT on Data Analytics, ERP, and FP&A system optimization.

Professional Experience and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of FP&A late-stage clinical R&D finance experience in a public biopharma company
  • Experience managing finances for CRO spend
  • Track record of being a positive energy, excellent team player with an ability to work collaboratively and develop productive relationships with key stakeholders across the organization and externally
  • Experience building usable, easy-to-understand financial models in drug development companies
  • Ability to see connections between financials, data, and business drivers, and draw strategic and operational insights from the performance of the business
  • Advanced financial tools proficiency โ€“ NetSuite experience preferred
  • Strong oral and written presentation skills โ€“ ability to present to executive audiences
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize work and multitask to meet deadlines
  • Outstanding time management skills and accountability.
  • Travel is required as needed.

Education

  • BA/BS in Accounting/Finance; CPA certification preferred.
