Job description

The Development & Communications Associate works closely with the Chief Advancement & Advocacy Officer and Communications Manager to provide support to the overall development and communications efforts of the school. This individual reports to the Chief Advancement & Advocacy Officer. This job description is meant to provide structure to the responsibilities and accountability of this position. There may be additional responsibilities that the Development & Communications Associate undertakes or that are assigned as department and school needs arise.

This is a 12-month position which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

The responsibilities of the Development & Communications Associate include:

Development

  • Generate acknowledgement letters, pledge reminders, and solicitations to individual donors and assist in other stewardship and prospecting activities
  • Maintain donor database and digital files of prospects and donors
  • Work with business department to process and track all individual donations
  • Research grant opportunities, proposal assembly/submission, donor stewardship and grant management and reporting
  • Support donor fundraising events
  • Prepare visitor packets and give tours of the school as needed
  • Represent Capital City at community events
  • Track development-related visitors
  • Work closely with Capital City’s accountants to ensure donations are tracked properly
  • Assist with annual appeals and individual giving campaigns


Communications

  • Support marketing efforts, including student and staff recruitment
  • Capture compelling photos and videos of school and classroom events
  • Maintain photo archives for organization
  • Manage school store and internal photo displays
  • Support the production of social media content
  • Maintaining school brand and standardized design for all materials
  • Support school website management, specifically updating the external calendar and staff pages


General Responsibilities

  • Assist with schoolwide, development, and outreach events as needed
  • Meeting regularly with the development and outreach teams


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in relevant field, Master’s preferred
  • At least one year of development or communications experience
  • Self-starter, able to work independently and collaboratively
  • Experience with managing social media platforms
  • Experience with Canva or graphic design software
  • Excellent attention to detail, ability to multi-task and take initiative
  • Strong written and communication skills, including copywriting, research, grammar, and vocabulary.
  • Strong editing skills and ability to receive feedback
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace
  • Fluency in Spanish and English preferred
  • Commitment to equity and social justice in education
