Communications Associate

As a Communications Associate, you'll play an essential role in bringing JASA's mission to life through engaging digital content, marketing campaigns, social media, and storytelling. Working closely with the Associate Director of Communications, you'll help elevate JASA's brand, increase community engagement, and showcase the impact of our programs serving older New Yorkers.

About the Role

The Communications Associate is a key member of JASA's Development & Communications team and supports agency-wide marketing, communications, and branding initiatives.

This hybrid position requires working from JASA's Central Office or in the field at least three days per week, with additional evening and weekend attendance required for events and special initiatives.

What You'll Be DoingMarketing & Communications
  • Design print and digital marketing materials for agency programs, events, and initiatives
  • Create engaging digital communications that increase participation and community engagement
  • Serve as the communications point person for the Outreach Committee and program staff
  • Develop promotional materials that maintain consistent JASA branding
  • Create calendar listings to promote programs and events
  • Assist with editorial and administrative communications projects
Website & Digital Content
  • Support ongoing updates to the JASA website
  • Create new web pages, forms, graphics, and digital content
  • Keep website calendars, news items, and program information current
  • Produce video content for digital platforms
  • Help improve the user experience and online engagement
Social Media Strategy
  • Create engaging content for multiple social media platforms, including:
    • Facebook
    • Instagram
    • LinkedIn
    • TikTok
    • X (formerly Twitter)
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive social media content calendar
  • Schedule and publish content through Hootsuite
  • Increase brand awareness and audience engagement
  • Research and cultivate relationships with community influencers
  • Monitor social media performance using Google Analytics and other reporting tools
Content Development & Storytelling
  • Partner with program staff to identify compelling client and staff stories
  • Conduct outreach to gather content for communications campaigns
  • Maintain and manage JASA's client story database for marketing and partnership opportunities
  • Ensure marketing materials accurately reflect JASA's mission and impact
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Work closely with PR consultants to coordinate media opportunities
  • Identify events, client stories, and organizational highlights for media coverage
  • Assist in preparing communications reports for the Board of Trustees
  • Collaborate across departments to support communications and outreach initiatives
Training & Brand Support
  • Train staff on Canva and mail merge software
  • Promote consistent branding standards across all agency communications

Additional Responsibilities
  • Travel throughout New York City and Long Island as needed

Experience
