What Is a Deputy Program Manager?
As a deputy program manager, you ensure that business programs reach their goals as smoothly as possible. Working closely with the program manager, your job duties are to coordinate activities, provide communication to all company departments, and construct special projects as necessary. As the second-in-command, many deputy program managers take on the responsibility of report writing, as well as many supervisory duties. A career as a deputy program manager requires you have some formal qualifications and education, typically a bachelor’s degree in business, administration, or a related field. Prior experience in program management, contracting, or leadership will set you ahead of other candidates, and many employers prefer skills like public speaking, administration, and strategic decision making in business.

Job description
SRC, Inc. is currently seeking a Deputy Program Manager. The selected candidate will support the Program Manager in the planning, execution, and tracking of complex Sensor Beam programs involving advanced sensor technologies, multi discipline engineering, rapid prototyping efforts, and integrated system development. - Preparing program status reports, technical documents, and other required artifacts to support internal leadership, external customers, and contractual documentation requirements
- Leading internal and external customer reviews and participating in in person and virtual meetings to present program status, risks, and technical updates
- Supporting proposal planning and execution, ensuring alignment with established program processes, compliance requirements, and quality standards
- Applying professional program management capabilities, including organizational management, risk awareness, and business intelligence—to ensure efficient, compliant, and mission focused program operations
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, business administration, or a related field with 10+ years of relevant experience, including 6+ years in program management or 4+ years in supervisor/technical lead roles with proposal and customer facing experience OR Master’s degree in engineering, mathematics, business administration, or a related field with 8+ years of relevant experience

- Effective communication skills to keep the Program Manager informed and aligned
- Ability to manage multiple customer requests simultaneously while navigating shifting priorities
- High emotional intelligence with the ability to understand and manage emotions constructively
- Capable of working effectively both independently and within a collaborative team environment

- Maintain an active professional project management certification and apply it directly to cost, schedule, and performance management across complex technical programs
- Leverage advanced emotional intelligence to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams, align stakeholders, and support program negotiations in high visibility environments
- Provide customer focused program support by translating technical database requirements and operational constraints into actionable program plans and deliverable schedules
