Job description

SALARY: $17.00 per hour

SURATION: Approximately May - August 2026

SCHEDULE: 15-20 hoiurs per week - varies based on department needs

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) is seeking a Summer Intern to assist with business engagement, supplier access, outreach, and program support initiatives. The intern will support the department’s efforts to connect local businesses to City opportunities, assist with program coordination, and contribute to initiatives that promote economic inclusion.

This role provides hands-on experience in public service, small business engagement, and program operations, including support for workshops, outreach efforts, and the Supplier Access Summit.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This list represents the types of duties required by the position. Other duties may be assigned as reasonably expected.

  • Assist with outreach to local businesses, including Minority- and Women-Owned Business Enterprises (M/WBEs), to increase awareness of City programs and opportunities
  • Support planning and coordination of workshops, training sessions, and community engagement events
  • Assist with vendor support activities, including intake, follow-up, and tracking participation in ODI programs
  • Maintain and update contact lists, engagement records, and internal databases
  • Support data entry and tracking in systems such as B2Gnow and other internal tools
  • Assist with audit preparation and review of vendor participation data
  • Support development of reports, presentations, and internal documentation
  • Assist with planning and execution of key initiatives, including the Supplier Access Summit
  • Help develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) and internal processes
  • Provide administrative support, including scheduling, meeting preparation, and note-taking
  • Attend and assist at community events and outreach activities as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Current undergraduate or graduate student in good standing working toward a degree in Social Studies, Political Science, History, or Business Administration, or similar program. Recent graduates will also be considered. Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED:
Ability to work with a degree of autonomy. Enjoyment of working and interacting with variety of people. Must be flexible, courteous, and interested in public service as well as a wide variety of public functions. Excellent communication, writing, and analytical skills. Quick learner. Ability to work well with others. Foreign language skills (especially Spanish) a plus. Graphic design and digital media experience.
