What You’ll Do 

As a Medical Assistant Intern, you will report to the Practice Manager and works under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor and/or Office Supervisor and/or Clinic Coordinator. The Medical Assistant Intern I is an 8 month paid program with a combination of classroom and patient care duties. Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, performs various clerical and basic clinical patient care duties.

Medical Assistant Intern Job Responsibilities 

  • Provide front-office support by greeting patients and visitors, managing check-in processes, and delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Answer and route telephone calls, relay messages, and assist patients with inquiries and appointment-related needs.
  • Collect, verify, and enter patient demographic, insurance, and financial information into the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, charts, files, and documentation in compliance with organizational standards.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare them for examinations and procedures.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, body measurements, medical histories, and other clinical information as directed and competency validated.
  • Perform basic clinical support duties, including specimen collection, routine laboratory testing, EKGs, medication refill coordination, and assistance with minor procedures under clinical supervision.
  • Enter and manage patient information, diagnostic results, health maintenance data, and medical histories within the EMR.
  • Provide patient education materials and reinforce provider instructions regarding diagnoses, treatments, and care plans.
  • Clean and disinfect exam rooms and equipment, maintain supply inventories, and support efficient clinic operations.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and clinical staff to ensure quality patient care and a positive patient experience.
  • Participate in internship training, competency development, continuing education, departmental meetings, and special projects.
  • Maintain compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, patient confidentiality standards, and workplace safety practices.

Required Qualifications 

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must be a minimum of 17 years of age.
  • The ability to speak and write Spanish is preferred.

Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting clearly with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. The role also requires knowledge of billing processes, office procedures, and computer applications to support efficient operations. Strong analytical skills are necessary to assess patient concerns, interpret data, and resolve issues effectively. In addition, the individual is expected to promote collaboration and innovation within clinical services, supporting an interdisciplinary approach to enhancing healthcare delivery and improving the quality of patient care.
