Job description

The Database Administrator is responsible for the administration, security, performance, availability, and continuous improvement of the firm's databases (Microsoft SQL Server). This role also supports the firmโ€™s data initiatives as it relates to Azure-based database services, enterprise data integrations, analytics platforms, and cloud data services.


  • Responsible for managing and administering the MS SQL Servers, including installation, provisioning and configuration, maintenance, performance tuning, backup/recovery, and database security initiatives.
  • Monitor performance, availability and capacity of database servers, related systems, and processes to ensure optimal performance. Take appropriate action to minimize issues and outages.
  • Review and track capacity, logs, and usage of database infrastructure. Develop and provide ad hoc reports and metrics as required.
  • Work with internal and external project participants to design and build new SQL Servers.
  • Establish and implement new policies and procedures and communicate changes to appropriate participants.
  • Support Information Services team with implementing and modifying applications, systems, and automated processes, including managing data feeds, enterprise integrations, APIs, ETL/ELT processes, automated data pipelines, and secure data movement between internal and third-party systems.
  • Support hybrid database environments spanning on-premises and cloud platforms. Assist with cloud migrations and database modernization initiatives including administration and support for Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Microsoft Fabric, Data Factory, and other cloud-based data services.
  • Support the implementation of redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure the protection, integrity, and business continuity of data assets.
  • Provide second-level support to Helpdesk, escalate to vendors as needed, and follow through to resolution.
  • Assist in the development of procedures and create supporting documentation.
  • Stay abreast of new technologies and techniques relating to MS SQL Server and other relevant data platforms.
  • Participate in various department projects and initiatives as assigned.
  • Provide on-call responsibility for 24/7 support, on a rotational basis.

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Technology or equivalent experience to successfully complete the essential requirements of the role.
  • 5 years of related experience, preferably in a professional services environment.
  • Microsoft Certification in Database Administration (MS SQL Server) is required.
  • Strong understanding of relational database concepts, structures, theories, principles and practices.
  • Experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting SQL servers.
  • Experience with SSRS and SSAS, log shipping and HA solutions.
  • Experience with TSQL, Powershell, enterprise integrations, APIs, and data pipelines.
  • Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with Intapp Integrate, Intapp Walls, Dell Boomi, Informatica is an asset.
  • Proficient in MS Office product suite.
  • Strong client service orientation combined with the ability to manage multiple client needs at the same time.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to interact with individuals at all levels within the organization with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to plan, organize, schedule and complete concurrent tasks and projects within tight deadlines in a high-pressure environment with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work well both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Ability to map, understand and build processes such as data flow, criticality and dependencies that are efficient and user intuitive.
  • Sound judgment, including the ability to deal with confidential information with utmost discretion.
  • Innovative approach to work, consistently looking at ways of upgrading the system to more efficient and effective new technologies.
  • Strong analytical thinking skills.
  • Flexibility to work overtime when required.

Hybrid
This position is part of our hybrid work model with 3 days in the office per week. As part of our onboarding, new hires are required to be in the office more often for the first few months of employment to ensure they receive the requisite cross training.
