Culinary Team Mentor - Lead, Train & Inspire in the Kitchen

Part-time position including every other Friday, Weekend and Holiday
Job Summary:
The Culinary Team Mentor is an experienced and competent culinary staff member who is specifically selected to serve as a role model and resource for kitchen team members. This individual is responsible for providing hands-on, 1:1 training for new and existing staff, ensuring they are properly oriented to culinary operations, food safety standards, and quality expectations.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 1 year of food service experience, preferably in healthcare or senior living
  • Knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, and safe food handling practices
  • Experience with modified and therapeutic diets preferred
  • Strong leadership, training, coaching, and mentoring abilities
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Professional, dependable, and organized with attention to detail
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and reinforce expectations
  • Flexible and reliable with the ability to support various shifts
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions in English
  • Ability to routinely pass knowledge assessments

Responsibilities:
  • Orientation and training of staff in conjunction with Director of Culinary Services
  • The Culinary Team Trainer works closely with leadership to reinforce standardized procedures, safe food handling practices, infection control, and efficient workflow within the kitchen.
  • Will support team members in developing skills, confidence, and consistency in their roles while promoting a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Complete the Culinary Department Training Checklist with each new employee.
  • Provide feedback to Director of Culinary Services regarding the progress of new staff members.
  • Train and supervise cleaning procedures for utensils, equipment and work areas.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and culinary audits.
  • Instruct employees in equipment use and maintenance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
