A Brief Overview
Under indirect supervision, the Genetic Counseling Assistant provides support to the Hereditary Cancer Clinic Services. Assists with scheduling, pre-appointment chart preparation, post visit follow-up, and data entry as directed by the team. Performs routine and specialized administrative functions to support the program to maintain an efficient and effective operation.
What you will do

  • Coordinate and schedule patients for the Hereditary Cancer Clinic, ensuring accuracy and appropriateness of appointments.
  • Upload and manage appointment and clinic data within required systems.
  • Confirm appointments with patients to improve attendance and reduce no-show rates.
  • Prepare for clinic visits by ensuring pedigrees meet established standards and guidelines.
  • Verify and update patient medical history, genetic test results, and related data in the EMR.
  • Support patient communication by responding to phone inquiries and portal messages.
  • Manage post-visit activities, including reviewing, documenting, and storing test results and consultation information.
  • Distribute clinic summaries and assist with communicating test results to patients in collaboration with providers.
  • Monitor and apply updated clinical guidelines, notifying patients and providers of relevant changes and required follow-up.
  • Assist with data collection, reporting, and research-related activities to support program outcomes.


Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of educational and work experience Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in genetics or biological sciences or health related field Preferred


Experience Qualifications

  • Experience in medical facility Preferred


Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication (both oral and written), interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills.
  • Basic math and computer skills, and knowledge of medical terminology
  • Proficient in MS Office including Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams
