LOCATION INFORMATION
This is statewide recruitment for the position of FIELD LIEUTENANT. Multiple vacancies are available across several facilities throughout the state. Applicants will be considered for placement at one or more locations based on hiring needs and candidate preference.
**FIELD Positions require completion of an eighty-hour basic horsemanship course at a satisfactory level within six (6) months of hire.

The mission of the Department of Corrections is to be a public safety resource for Arkansas families by providing professional management solutions and evidence-based rehabilitative initiatives for offenders.
All DOC positions are designated as Safety Sensitive Positions and are subject to random drug testing pursuant to the Secretarial Directive governing Personnel Drug Testing. Medical marijuana usage, as defined in Amendment 93 of the Arkansas Constitution, prohibits Personnel in a Safety-Sensitive Position from the use of medical marijuana even if they are qualifying patient under the amendment and/or hold a registry identification card. Department Personnel are prohibited from the use or possession of a medicinal marijuana card pursuant to this policy and state law.

Job Summary
The Corrections Lieutenant is responsible for directing the work activities of correctional employees and maintaining security within the institution. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Primary Responsibilities
Supervise and oversee the work activities of correctional staff, including hiring, training, and evaluating performance.Ensure the safety and security of the facility by conducting regular security checks, monitoring inmate activities, and responding to emergencies.Develop and implement policies and procedures to maintain order and discipline within the institution.Coordinate and supervise the movement and daily activities of inmates, including meals, work schedules, and transportation to various locations.Prepare and maintain accurate reports on inmate behavior, incidents, and disciplinary actions.Conduct inmate searches and inspections of living areas to prevent contraband and ensure compliance with facility rules.Provide guidance and support to correctional staff, fostering a positive and professional work environment.Attend meetings and briefings to discuss security issues, incidents, and operational updates.Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and community organizations to enhance public safety and inmate rehabilitation.
Knowledge and Skills
Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team.Ability to manage and de-escalate high-tension situations calmly and effectively.Proficient in monitoring behaviors and identifying potential security risks.Conduct thorough security checks of buildings, grounds, and other public safety activities.Familiarity with department policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma, plus three years of experience in correctional security or law enforcement, including two years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
Licensure/Certifications
Must possess a valid Arkansas driver's license.OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
