Job Summary:

Reporting to the Executive Chef, prepare and cook various dishes for restaurant and lounge guests as well as assist with preparing, cooking and presenting dishes for special guests, functions and events. You will ensure high standards of food hygiene and follow the rules of health and safety. As part of an experienced kitchen team, you will work with exceptional seasonal products and may also assist with developing new dishes and menus.


Responsibilities:


Food Preparation

  • Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment
  • Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.)
  • Prepare food items according to recipe

Cooking

  • Cook food in various utensils or grillers
  • Check food while cooking to stir or turn
  • Grilling, sauteing, baking frying, boiling and other techniques.
  • Ensure food is cooked to appropriate temperature and level of doneness.

Recipe Adherence and Menu Development

  • Follow recipes according to guidelines or adapt as needed for special dietary needs

Plate Presentation

  • Ensure great presentation by dressing dishes before they are served.


Quality Control

  • Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
  • Check quality of ingredients
  • Monitoring and managing cooking tools and ingredients
  • Follow instructions in cooking, delivering, and presenting well-prepared meals.


Sanitation and Hygiene

  • May at times be asked to support the dishwasher
    Keep a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen
  • Ensuring high standards of food hygiene and follow the rules of health and safety

    Health and Safety

    - Follow all safety protocol in the kitchen

    - wear PPE as required

    - report any unsafe situations to prevent accidents or injury


    Learning and development

    * Stay on top of trends and changes in the food and restaurant industry to better serve customers and develop new skills

    Collaboration and Communication

    • Taking orders from the wait staff and preparing food according to customer preference
    • Making adjustments to accommodate clients with specific diet and health concerns
    • Effective communication in the kitchen among the team and clear communication with all serving staff

    Inventory Management

    • Assist with inventory management.
      Help track ingredients and advise when getting low

    Experience and Qualifications:

    • Preferred at least 2 years of culinary experience in a fast-paced kitchen.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and good communication skills in English
    • Ability to prioritize organize and follow through as necessary
    • Must possess a passion for food and developing knowledge of all cooking methods
    • Food Safe certification is an asset
