Job description

Nix Construction is looking for an experienced Office Manager / Controller to help keep the financial and operational side of our underground utility and pipe construction business running smoothly. This is a key leadership role for someone who enjoys wearing multiple hats, solving problems, building processes, and being the person everyone relies on to keep things on track.

If you thrive in fast-paced environments, enjoy balancing numbers with real-world operations, and can jump from payroll questions to job costing to helping organize office workflows without missing a beat - you may fit right in here.

Pay: $110k - $160k

What You'll Be Doing
  • Overseeing daily accounting operations including AP, AR, payroll, reconciliations, and reporting
  • Managing job costing and project financial tracking
  • Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
  • Working closely with ownership, project managers, field teams, vendors, and subcontractors
  • Helping maintain organized office systems and operational processes
  • Supporting onboarding, employee records, and administrative functions
  • Identifying process improvements and helping streamline operations
  • Keeping projects, paperwork, and people moving in the same direction
What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting, office management, or controller-level work
  • Construction industry experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with job costing and project accounting
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Someone who can prioritize, problem solve, and adapt quickly
  • Comfortable working with accounting/ERP systems and Excel
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with both office and field teams
  • A self-starter who takes ownership and follows things through
What This Role is Really Like

This isn't a "sit quietly behind a desk and do one thing all day" kind of job.

This is a hands-on operational role where priorities shift, phones ring, projects move fast, and the office supports active construction operations happening in the field every day. One minute you may be reviewing project costs, the next helping solve a payroll issue or tracking down missing billing documentation.

The right person for this role is organized, dependable, proactive, and doesn't mind a little controlled chaos now and then.

Why Nix Construction?
  • Stable, established construction company
  • Small team environment where your work truly matters
  • Variety in your day-to-day responsibilities
  • Opportunity to help improve systems and processes
  • Direct involvement in company operations and decision-making
  • Work with people who value reliability, teamwork, and getting the job done
Location

This is a full-time, on-site position based in Ogden, Utah.

If you're looking for a role where you can make a real impact, help support growing operations, and be a key part of the team behind the scenes, we'd love to hear from you.
