Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled, Workday-Certified Time Tracking and Absence Consultant to lead the configuration, optimization, and support of Workday HCM modules for our public sector program. This role is crucial for designing and maintaining complex time reporting, leave management, and labor compliance structures.
The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise in Workday configuration coupled with a strong understanding of California public sector labor policies, including CalHR standards and the California State Controller's Office (SCO) payroll processes.
Responsibilities:
Workday System Configuration & Design
• Module Ownership: Configure, test, and maintain Workday Time Tracking and Absence Management modules to support complex public sector business requirements.
• Rules & Calculations: Build and update complex time entry templates, time calculation rules, accrual plans, eligibility rules, and period schedules.
• Leave Management: Design and maintain specialized leave types (e.g., FMLA, CFRA, Industrial Disability Leave, and military leave) tailored to California public sector guidelines.
California Public Sector Compliance & Payroll Integration
• Policy Translation: Interpret and translate complex Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs), bargaining unit agreements, and CalHR policies into precise Workday system logic.
• SCO Alignment: Collaborate with integration and payroll teams to align Workday time and absence outputs with California State Controller's Office (SCO) procedures, timelines, and reporting requirements.
• FLSA Compliance: Ensure time tracking configurations accurately capture and calculate overtime rules, shift differentials, and premium pays in compliance with federal FLSA and California state regulations.
Testing, Support & Data Integrity
• Testing Cycles: Lead system testing, integration testing, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for all time and absence configuration changes, specifically focusing on complex retro-calculations.
• Release Management: Support quarterly Workday updates by performing robust regression testing on existing configurations, custom reports, and downstream payroll interfaces.
• Production Support: Provide high-tier functional troubleshooting for complex timecard and absence balance discrepancies, resolving issues within established SLA windows.
Qualifications:
• Minimum of 6 years of experience of hands-on configuration experience in Workday Time Tracking and Absence Management modules
• College Degree preferred

• Proven experience configuring Workday in complex environments with multiple union agreements, rotating shifts, and varied eligibility profiles.
• Prior experience supporting California state agencies, counties, municipalities, or higher education institutions is highly preferred
• Functional understanding of CalHR policies, procedures, and leave administration, as well as California State Controller's Office (SCO) payroll processes is preferred
• Proficiency in building Workday Custom Reports, Calculated Fields, and utilizing EIBs for bulk data updates.
