Job description

The Associated Press is an independent global news organization dedicated to factual reporting. Founded in 1846, AP today remains the most trusted source of fast, accurate, unbiased news in all formats and the essential provider of the technology and services vital to the news business. More than half the world's population sees AP journalism every day.

Why this role matters:

As a compensation analyst, you will help shape competitive and effective compensation practices that support AP's ability to attract, retain and reward talent. You will partner with People Team colleagues and business leaders to provide data-driven insights, recommendations and solutions that align compensation programs with AP's talent and business priorities.

What you will do:

  • Under the direction of the VP of total rewards, partner with People Team colleagues and business leaders to provide compensation guidance for hiring, promotions, internal mobility and talent decisions.
  • Assist with developing compensation recommendations that balance internal equity, market competitiveness and business needs.
  • Conduct market pricing, job evaluations and benchmarking using compensation surveys and external market data.
  • Support AP's compensation and total rewards philosophy, programs and annual processes.
  • Contribute to job architecture and career frameworks that support career development, talent planning and market alignment.
  • Provide compensation guidance for emerging, high-demand and strategically important roles.
  • Analyze compensation data and translate findings into clear, actionable insights for leaders.
  • Partner on compensation projects and continuous improvements, and support benefits, HRIS and other People Team priorities as needed.
  • Assist with and undertake HRIS functions as assigned.

Who you are:

  • You have a bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • You bring experience supporting compensation programs, market analysis, benchmarking and survey participation.
  • You are a strong analytical thinker who can interpret complex data and turn it into practical recommendations.
  • You have advanced Excel and data management skills and are comfortable working with large data sets.
  • You can distill complex information into clear, meaningful insights for a variety of stakeholders.
  • You communicate effectively in writing, verbally and in presentations, including with nontechnical audiences.
  • You build strong relationships, collaborate across teams and effectively influence stakeholders at multiple levels.
  • You are highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities, projects and deadlines.
  • You are detail-oriented, intellectually curious and committed to continuous improvement.

What will set you apart:

  • An advanced degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience using automation, AI-enabled tools, predictive analytics or modeling.
  • Experience with SuccessFactors, CompAnalyst or other compensation technology platforms.
  • Experience supporting global or international compensation programs.
  • Experience in financial services or consulting.

Why join us:

  • A mission-driven, inclusive environment focused on both individual and collective success.
  • Opportunities for professional development to help you reach your career goals.
  • Access to tools, mentorship, and resources tailored to elevate your proficiency and contributions.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $70,000 - $90,000, based on a candidate's skills, qualifications and location. The Associated Press offers comprehensive benefits, which include:

  • Competitive medical, dental and vision coverage
  • Retirement benefits
  • Company paid life insurance
  • Paid vacation and sick days
  • Paid parental leave for any new parent
  • Mental well-being resources

Application deadline is September 18, 2026, at 11:59p.m. ET.
