Contract Learning And Development information

What is a contract learning and development professional?

Contract Learning and Development professionals are specialists who work on a temporary or project basis to design, deliver, and evaluate training programs within organizations. They help employees improve skills, adapt to new technologies, or meet compliance requirements. These professionals may develop e-learning courses, conduct workshops, or create instructional materials tailored to an organization's needs. Working on a contract basis allows companies to access specialized expertise without committing to full-time employment. Contract Learning and Development roles are common in industries undergoing change, implementing new systems, or facing skill gaps.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract learning and development professional?

To excel as a Contract Learning and Development Specialist, you need expertise in instructional design, adult learning principles, and experience with training delivery, often supported by a degree in education, HR, or a related field. Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS), e-learning authoring tools like Articulate or Captivate, and relevant certifications such as CPLP or ATD are highly valued. Strong communication, project management, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for collaborating with clients and adjusting to diverse organizational needs. These competencies ensure effective training solutions that drive employee performance and meet business objectives in dynamic environments.

What are some common challenges faced by contract learning and development professionals, and how can they be addressed?

Contract Learning and Development professionals often face challenges such as quickly adapting to new organizational cultures and expectations, managing multiple projects with tight deadlines, and ensuring alignment with the client’s strategic goals. To address these challenges, it's important to establish clear communication with stakeholders from the outset, clarify project scope and objectives, and leverage strong project management skills. Building rapport with key team members early on can also facilitate smoother collaboration and more effective learning solutions.

A career at Hays means working with skilled people from diverse backgrounds who are encouraged to think beyond, united by the Hays spirit and guided by our belief to always do the right thing.

YOUR NEW TEAM

Join our high-performing construction and property team, made up of professionals from diverse cultures and backgrounds — including top-producing Hays Recruitment professionals with experience from our global businesses. The team consists of industry experts with 12+ years of staffing expertise, consultants with 2–3 years of high-level success, and associates who have recently started their Hays journey.

Our leadership team fosters an environment of hands-on support, team collaboration, and inclusive competition to challenge one another to be their best. We enjoy working together in a high-pace, sales-driven environment while also celebrating together through team lunches, bonding activities, and happy hours.

YOUR NEW ROLE

As an Recruitment Consultant on our Construction & Property team, you will own the full recruitment cycle — building client relationships, sourcing top talent, and delivering placements across contract, contract-to-hire, and permanent opportunities. This is a 360° sales and recruitment role where your results are directly tied to your effort and ambition.

WHAT YOU’LL ACTUALLY DO

  • Develop new business relationships and maintain your network of client companies through business development calls, client visits, networking, and entertainment events
  • Apply a relationship-based sales approach to build and maintain a successful book of business
  • Drive client relationships for your designated market and take action on leads passed

Recruitment & Delivery

  • Source, recruit, interview, evaluate, and place highly skilled professionals to match client requirements for contract, contract-to-hire, and permanent opportunities
  • Build a network of active and passive professionals through creative sourcing, referrals, and networking events
  • Foster long-term relationships with clients and candidates through consistent, ongoing contact
  • Follow up with pipeline and placed candidates to grow your professional network within your market

Growth & Development

  • Build foundational recruitment and business development skills, taking ownership of your own development
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities with Hays Learning & Development
  • Actively showcase and live Hays values, vision, and standards for high performance

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • 1–2 years of experience in a sales-related role, ideally with outbound sales experience
  • Achievement-focused, resilient, authentic, and trustworthy
  • Self-motivated and self-reliant — you take initiative without being asked
  • Strong communicator with the ability to overcome obstacles and operate as a true team player
  • Genuine desire for personal development and professional growth

WHAT YOU’LL GET IN RETURN

  • Base salary of $47,500 plus an uncapped commission plan
  • Hybrid / flexible schedule
  • PTO starting at 22 days, plus 2 floating holidays and 2 volunteer days — top performers earn unlimited PTO
  • Competitively priced medical, vision, and dental plans
  • 401(k) with guaranteed match and fast-paced vesting schedule
  • Continuous training and support through Hays Learning & Development for your professional growth
