What is a contract executive recruiter?

A Contract Executive Recruiter is a professional who is hired temporarily by organizations to find and attract high-level executives, such as CEOs, CFOs, or other senior leaders. Unlike permanent employees, contract recruiters typically work on a project basis, often for a specific search or time period. They leverage their networks and recruiting expertise to identify qualified candidates, conduct interviews, and manage the hiring process. This role is essential for companies that need to fill critical leadership positions quickly or require specialized recruiting skills for executive roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract executive recruiter?

To thrive as a Contract Executive Recruiter, you need expertise in talent sourcing, candidate assessment, and negotiation, usually supported by experience in recruiting or human resources. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), professional networking platforms like LinkedIn Recruiter, and recruitment analytics tools is essential. Strong interpersonal skills, persistence, and the ability to build trust with both clients and candidates make someone stand out in this role. These competencies are crucial for efficiently matching top executive talent with organizational needs and ensuring successful placements in a highly competitive market.

What are some common challenges faced by contract executive recruiters, and how can they be addressed?

Contract Executive Recruiters often face the challenge of quickly understanding a client's company culture and leadership needs while working on a tight timeline. Building trust with both hiring managers and high-level candidates can be difficult without a long-standing relationship, so strong communication and adaptability are essential. Additionally, balancing multiple engagements at once requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize effectively. Staying proactive about networking and keeping updated with industry trends can help recruiters overcome these challenges and deliver successful placements.

Job description

We are seeking a highly proactive Contract Technical Recruiter / Executive Sourcer to support our growing fintech and real estate technology organization in Irvine. This role is ideal for a recruiter who is a true headhunter—someone who actively identifies, engages, and recruits high-caliber technology professionals rather than relying primarily on applicants coming through an ATS or job postings.

The recruiter will partner closely with Engineering, Product, Program, and Data Science leadership to build talent pipelines and fill specialized and hard-to-find technical positions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own full-cycle recruiting for assigned technology positions, from talent identification through offer acceptance.
  • Proactively headhunt and directly source passive candidates who are not actively applying to open positions.
  • Develop creative sourcing strategies using LinkedIn Recruiter, professional networks, industry communities, referrals, competitive intelligence, and other direct-sourcing channels.
  • Research target companies and identify high-performing talent within relevant technology organizations.
  • Engage passive candidates through personalized outreach and build relationships for both immediate and future hiring needs.
  • Recruit across a variety of technical disciplines, including:
    • Software Engineering
    • Test Automation / QA Engineering
    • Data Science
    • Product Management
    • Technical Program Management
    • Other specialized technology roles
  • Partner directly with hiring managers to understand technical requirements and define the ideal candidate profile.
  • Translate technical requirements into effective search strategies and candidate profiles.
  • Build and maintain targeted talent pipelines rather than depending solely on inbound applicants.
  • Conduct initial candidate assessments and provide hiring managers with well-qualified, thoroughly screened candidates.
  • Manage multiple searches and priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Track recruiting activity and candidate progress within the ATS while using the ATS as a management tool—not the primary source of candidates.
  • Provide regular market feedback on candidate availability, compensation expectations, competitive talent, and sourcing challenges.
  • Deliver an exceptional candidate experience throughout the recruiting process.
