Job Summary/Description:
WKYT in Lexington, Kentucky, is looking for a digital content producer for its award-winning and innovative digital platforms. We have all the tools for success and innovation in digital content: an outstanding, dedicated team in front of the camera and behind the scenes; live streaming capabilities with multiple live trucks and TVUs; access to a drone for enhancing coverage; and a podcasting studio.
Duties/Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to) the following:
• Work weekend shifts supporting our digital publishing and streaming coverage.
• Publish breaking/newsroom content quickly and accurately to our website and station social platforms.
• Work directly with our Streaming Desk to clip, distribute, and optimize live/near-live content.
• Partner closely with the Sports Department on game nights to turn highlights, scores, and recaps fast-getting content published efficiently across all platforms.
• Edit and publish content natively inside social apps (especially Instagram and TikTok) using platform best practices (vertical video, captions, hooks, etc.).
• Create/produce vertical video for station accounts; operate (or learn to operate) our newsroom editing system to cut and export social-ready video.
• Collaborate daily with news managers, producers, assignment editors, reporters, photographers, weather, and sports to anticipate content needs and execute coverage plans.
• Strengthen stories with clean writing, headlines, basic graphics/templates, research, and consistent station branding.
• Write clearly for multiple platforms under tight deadlines with strong editorial judgment, accuracy, and adherence to journalistic ethics and libel laws.
Schedule
• Weekend position with additional sports game-night responsibilities (schedule varies by season/coverage needs).
• Some holiday and late-night work may be required depending on coverage.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in journalism/communications or related field (or equivalent newsroom/digital experience).
• Demonstrated ability to publish quickly and accurately on digital platforms (web + social).
• Comfortable editing short-form video; experience with in-app editing tools (IG/TikTok) strongly preferred.
• Experience with a newsroom CMS and basic video editing tools preferred; willingness to learn our editing system is required.
• Strong news judgment, clean writing, attention to detail, and calm decision-making under deadline pressure.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills; thrives in a fast-paced, team-driven environment.
