What is a Consultative Sales job?

A Consultative Sales job focuses on understanding a customer's needs and providing tailored solutions rather than just selling a product or service. Sales professionals in this role build relationships, ask thoughtful questions, and act as trusted advisors to help clients achieve their goals. This approach prioritizes long-term value over short-term transactions, fostering customer loyalty and repeat business. Successful consultative salespeople develop deep product knowledge and strong communication skills to guide customers toward the best possible solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Consultative Sales position, and why are they important?

Excelling in Consultative Sales requires strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, often paired with experience or training in solution-based selling techniques. Familiarity with CRM systems such as Salesforce, as well as sales enablement tools and possibly relevant sales certifications, is highly beneficial. Outstanding Consultative Sales professionals also display active listening, empathy, and adaptability when engaging with clients. These abilities are essential to understand client needs thoroughly, build lasting relationships, and deliver tailored solutions that drive customer satisfaction and sales success.

What does a typical day look like for someone working in Consultative Sales?

In a Consultative Sales role, your daily activities often involve meeting with prospective and current clients to assess their needs, preparing customized solutions, and collaborating closely with product or technical teams to ensure proposed offerings address customer requirements. You’ll use tools like CRM systems to manage follow-ups, track progress, and maintain detailed records of client interactions. Regular teamwork with marketing and customer service departments is common to ensure a seamless client experience throughout the sales cycle. This role is both people-oriented and strategic, requiring a proactive approach to building relationships and driving successful outcomes for both the client and the company.

Job description

About Taubman Financial Management:

Taubman Financial Management is an established organization built on vision, integrity, and a commitment to serving families at the highest level. Our mission is simple: to help people protect what matters most—and to leave every individual better than we find them. We take a modern, professional approach to the insurance industry by combining advanced technology, streamlined systems, and genuine human connection. This allows us to deliver an efficient, empowering experience for both our clients and our advisors.

No cold calling. No chasing. You will work exclusively with individuals and families who have already requested information or assistance regarding their insurance needs.

About the Role:

This is not a traditional sales position. This role is best described as a consultative, client-service-focused advisor position. The clients you work with have already expressed interest in coverage or requested information. Your role is to guide them through their options, answer questions, and help them enroll in the coverage they requested.

You will meet with individuals and families virtually (via Zoom or phone), ensuring they understand their options and feel confident in their decisions. This is a 1099, performance-based role with structured training, mentorship, and clearly defined advancement pathways.

Key Responsibilities:

· Learn and follow proven company systems to deliver a high-quality client experience

· Follow up with warm leads and prior client inquiries

· Conduct virtual client meetings via Zoom or phone

· Educate clients using a consultative, service-first approach

· Help clients enroll in coverage they have requested

· Maintain clear, professional, and timely communication

· Collaborate with team members to ensure consistent client support

· Meet performance benchmarks to unlock growth opportunities

· Participate in weekly virtual training and professional development

· Build and maintain long-term client relationships using company-provided and self-generated leads

Qualifications:

· 3+ years of experience in sales, customer service, or a related field preferred

· Strong verbal and virtual communication skills

· Comfort with technology and modern digital tools

· Excellent time management and organizational skills

· Professional, dependable, and service-oriented

· Coachable mindset with a willingness to learn and improve

Requirements:

· Flexible availability, including some evenings or weekends

· Reliable smartphone, computer, and internet access

· Ability to pass a background check

· Ability to complete contracting requirements

· Active Life & Health Insurance License or willingness to obtain one with support

Compensation & Growth:

· Commission-based compensation (1099)

· Performance bonuses and incentive opportunities

· Clear advancement and leadership development pathways

· Annual company trips for qualifying producers

· Discounted personal insurance coverage options

Compensation is based on individual performance and production. No income is guaranteed, and results vary based on effort, consistency, and market conditions.

Licensing Support If you do not currently hold a Life & Health Insurance License, Taubman Financial Management provides guidance, resources, and support to help you obtain it—often within 7–10 days, depending on individual effort and state requirements.

Final Note This role is ideal for professionals who enjoy helping people, value structure and accountability, and are comfortable with performance-based growth. If you are seeking hourly pay or a traditional W-2 position, this role may not be the right fit. If you’re looking for a consultative, service-driven opportunity with long-term upside, we’d welcome the conversation.
