Job description

We are hiring a hands-on Project Engineer to support healthcare, hospital, university, and institutional electrical construction projects within a self-performing electrical contractor.

We are specifically looking for someone with direct commercial electrical construction experience who wants to grow into a Project Manager role. The right candidate will understand how project documentation, material procurement, field coordination, BIM/VDC, and construction schedules work together to support successful field installation.

This is not a desk-only administrative position. You will work directly with Project Managers, foremen, electricians, vendors, and field teams throughout the project lifecycle, from preconstruction and project setup through closeout.

Responsibilities

  • Support Project Managers with commercial electrical projects from preconstruction through final closeout
  • Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement items, project logs, and closeout documents
  • Coordinate with electricians, foremen, vendors, subcontractors, general contractors, and internal project teams
  • Review electrical drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and construction documents
  • Track project schedules, material deliveries, equipment orders, field progress, and open action items
  • Assist estimating and preconstruction teams with takeoffs, scope reviews, project setup, and turnover activities
  • Work with BIM/VDC teams to identify coordination conflicts and provide field-ready project information
  • Participate in project meetings, jobsite visits, and day-to-day field coordination

Requirements

  • 2-5+ years of experience as a Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, or similar commercial electrical construction professional
  • Direct experience working for an electrical contractor required
  • Commercial electrical construction experience required
  • Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, scheduling, and project documentation
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and construction documents
  • Strong organization, communication, follow-up, and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working with Project Managers, foremen, electricians, vendors, and field personnel
  • Genuine interest in developing into an electrical construction Project Manager

Benefits

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Health insurance and benefits package
  • Retirement plan options
  • Paid time off
  • Defined advancement path toward a Project Manager role
  • Opportunity to support large-scale healthcare, university, and institutional electrical projects

This opportunity is ideal for an electrical construction professional who wants direct project responsibility, meaningful field exposure, and a long-term path into Project Management.
