Job description

Job Title: Construction Project Engineer / Field Engineer

Job Description

The Construction Project Engineer / Field Engineer supports project teams in delivering commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. You work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, and clients to ensure projects are executed safely, on time, and within scope. In this primarily field-based role, you coordinate daily site activities, manage project documentation, and help maintain quality and safety standards across a variety of industrial, automotive, higher education, and healthcare projects.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day field operations and coordinate subcontractors and trades to keep work progressing according to plan.
  • Track and manage RFIs, submittals, and change orders to maintain accurate project documentation and communication.
  • Perform regular site walks, inspections, and quality checks to verify work aligns with project requirements.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules, as well as preparing project documentation and reporting.
  • Coordinate with clients, design teams, and internal stakeholders to resolve issues and maintain alignment on project goals.
  • Ensure all work complies with project specifications, construction drawings, and applicable safety standards.
  • Assist with project closeout activities, including punch lists, turnover documentation, and final inspections.
  • Support document control processes, including daily reporting and record keeping for field activities.
  • Collaborate with field teams to address issues in real time and support effective problem solving in dynamic site conditions.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience as a Project Engineer working on commercial construction projects.
  • Hands-on experience with field coordination of subcontractors and trades on active job sites.
  • Proficiency in managing RFIs, submittals, change orders, and document control processes.
