Job description

About us
One team. Global challenges. Infinite opportunities. At Viasat, we're on a mission to deliver connections with the capacity to change the world. For more than 35 years, Viasat has helped shape how consumers, businesses, governments and militaries around the globe communicate. We're looking for people who think big, act fearlessly, and create an inclusive environment that drives positive impact to join our team.
What you'll do
We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for an ERP Portfolio Director (ERP Systems) to join our dynamic team in Carlsbad, CA! This hybrid role offers the unique blend of working collaboratively within our Carlsbad office and the flexibility of hybrid work.
Strategic Leadership & Value Stream Ownership
  • Own strategy, performance, and business outcomes for ERP operational value streams: Order-to-Cash (O2C),
  • Procure-to-Pay (P2P), Supply Chain & Logistics, and Plan-to-Build.
  • Drive multi-functional process design and ERP enablement aligned to business value defined by Global Process Owners (GPOs).
  • Define platform guardrails for process standardization and clean-core adoption, including a documented exception process.
  • Ensure ERP enablement supports complex program-based execution models, including long-cycle manufacturing, contract-driven delivery, and government program compliance requirements.

Portfolio Roadmap & Investment Governance
  • Own the Now / Next / Later ERP roadmap, balancing value delivery with platform stability and technical debt reduction.
  • Lead major ERP transformation initiatives (e.g., ECC rationalization, S/4HANA migration waves, template harmonization, automation of manual processes).
  • Chair ERP intake/prioritization governance with GPOs; ensure work is initiated only after formal prioritization and funding approvals.
  • Maintain approval authority for major ERP functional design, configuration, and integration decisions; joint sign-off required with Financial Reporting Platforms for changes impacting finance dimensions, feeds, or close controls.
  • Define and implement Oracle ERP decommissioning and coexistence strategies, including data retention, integration rationalization, and risk-managed functional transition to SAP S/4HANA.

This is a site-based role, employees work 3+ days (60%+) per week from a Viasat office or work location within a standard five-day workweek.
The day-to-day
Run Operations, Controls & Platform Health (Run + Transform)
  • Ensure ERP availability, stability, performance, and resiliency across critical periods (month-end, quarter-end, year-end, peak fulfillment).
  • Partner with technical delivery leads on incident/problem management, RCA, defect reduction, and environment/release governance.
  • Accountable for ERP control posture and sustained audit readiness across SOX/ITGC/ITAC (including remediation execution and evidence rigor in partnership with Audit/Security).
  • Establish and manage service KPIs (availability, MTTR, change success rate, incident recurrence, defect escape rate, backlog health) and drive continuous improvement.
  • Establish heightened operational controls and stability guardrails for ERP processes supporting government and defense programs, including change restriction protocols and production risk evaluation.

Integration, Data, and Downstream Enablement
  • Own ERP ecosystem integration outcomes across ERP and adjacent platforms (e.g., MES/WMS/TMS/PLM/CRM/eCommerce), including interface reliability, reconciliation controls, and monitoring.
  • Ensure ERP outbound feeds to Adaptive/Hyperion/Oracle are stable, reconciled, and change-controlled, with coordinated release windows and readiness gates.
  • Partner with data owners to strengthen master data governance practices that protect operational execution and reporting integrity.

Organizational Alignment & multi-functional Collaboration
  • Partner with IT peers in Solutions Architecture, Development & Integration Services, Cybersecurity, Data & Analytics from inception to delivery.
  • Collaborate with GPOs/BPOs to harmonize processes, govern change, and ensure adoption readiness.
  • Build and mature a global super-user and SME network to support adoption and hypercare stabilization.
  • Partner with program management, supply chain, and compliance partners to ensure ERP solutions meet contractual, delivery, and audit expectations.

Financial & Vendor Management
  • Own ERP portfolio CapEx/OpEx, cost transparency, and measurable return on investment.
  • Govern system integrators, managed services, and SaaS partners with outcome-based SLAs and performance scorecards.
  • Shift delivery from staff augmentation to managed outcomes through internal capability building, knowledge capture, and standard operating procedures.
  • Govern SAP system integrators through clearly defined deliverables, milestone-based payments, and quality gates tied to migration, stabilization, and operational outcomes.

What you'll need
  • 12+ years of progressive IT leadership with ownership of large-scale, global ERP portfolios. Depth across ERP value streams (O2C, P2P, Supply Chain/Manufacturing) and working knowledge of finance execution impacts (posting logic, intercompany enablement, close dependencies).
  • Demonstrable experience leading run + transform delivery in complex environments.
Strong operational discipline with a metrics-first approach (service management attitude, continuous improvement).
  • Experience in regulated environments with SOX/ITGC/ITAC responsibilities, audit remediation, and evidence discipline.
  • Proven leadership of global teams and large SI/managed services ecosystems.
  • Superb communication at all levels including executive engagement.
  • U.S. Citizenship required (due to program requirements).

What will help you on the job
  • Experience leading multi-platform ERP environments.
  • Led at least one major ERP transformation through go-live (cutover + hypercare), including integration readiness and control validation.
  • Solid understanding of program-based manufacturing, project costing, complex BOMs, long lead-time procurement, and fulfillment in ERP systems.
  • Demonstrated experience operating and governing Oracle and SAP ERP platforms in parallel during phased ERP migrations.
  • Experience supporting ERP-enabled operations in aerospace, defense, satellite, or government contracting environments.
  • Hands-on leadership of SAP S/4HANA migrations and/or Oracle upgrades.
  • Familiarity with government contracting considerations (e.g., FAR/DFARS impacts, compliance-driven controls, audit readiness requirements affecting ERP execution).
  • Experience managing integration complexity across ERP, manufacturing systems, and downstream finance platforms in multi ERP ecosystems. Experience in aviation, maritime, energy, or similar operational domains.
