Job description

Construction Accounting ERP ConsultantFull Time | Remote | Syscon, Inc.
Do you understand construction accounting well enough to see what is happening behind the numbers, and ERP systems well enough to help someone fix the process when something is not working?
Syscon, Inc. is looking for a Construction Accounting ERP Consultant who can work directly with Controllers, Accounting Managers, and construction accounting teams to improve how they use their ERP systems. This role combines construction accounting knowledge, ERP consulting, implementation, training, troubleshooting, reporting, and process improvement.
Sage 100 Contractor is a primary platform at Syscon and direct experience is highly valuable, but it is not required. If you have strong construction accounting knowledge and meaningful experience with another construction ERP system, we are open to that experience.
Founded in 1986, Syscon helps construction companies get more value from their technology and business systems.HOW WE WORK
  • We are a we. No ego, no drama, no “not my job.” Every person on this team owns their piece and shows up for everyone else’s.
  • We ask for help when we need it. We take feedback and use it. We take ownership when something does not go as planned, learn from it, and make sure the same mistake does not keep happening.
  • We are proactive about learning. We research, ask questions, test ideas, and keep building our knowledge rather than waiting for someone else to tell us every step.
  • We treat every task, even the mundane ones, as a chance to take away a client’s pain. That’s not a value we hang on the wall. It’s how we operate.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Work directly with construction accounting teams to understand accounting, workflow, reporting, and ERP challenges
  • Support ERP implementations from discovery and process mapping through configuration, testing, training, go live, and ongoing support
  • Help clients improve workflows involving job costing, WIP, progress billing, payroll, general ledger, month end close, financial reporting, and related construction accounting processes
  • Configure and troubleshoot ERP workflows, accounting setup, reporting, and business processes
  • Train accounting teams and other end users so they understand both the system and the process behind it
  • Create clear procedures, training materials, and documentation clients can use independently
  • Help clients navigate year end processes, software updates, accounting changes, reporting needs, and transaction history
  • Build and maintain reports using ERP report writers, Excel, Power BI, and query tools
  • Manage multiple client priorities while providing clear communication, accurate follow through, and timely resolution
  • Continue building your knowledge of Syscon’s ERP platforms, construction accounting, and emerging technology
WHAT YOU BRINGRequired
  • At least five years of professional experience in construction accounting and/or construction ERP systems, including meaningful hands-on experience with a construction accounting ERP
  • Strong working knowledge of construction accounting, including job costing, WIP, progress billing, general ledger, financial reporting, and month end processes
  • Meaningful hands-on experience using, supporting, implementing, or consulting within a construction accounting ERP system
  • Recent construction ERP experience
  • Experience working through accounting or business processes beyond basic software navigation or user support
  • Experience training or supporting accounting end users
  • Ability to understand a client’s accounting or workflow problem, ask good questions, investigate the issue, and help move it toward resolution
  • Strong communication, organization, follow through, and client service skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and take ownership of commitments
  • Ability to learn unfamiliar systems independently and apply what you learn
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Authorization to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship
A Strong Plus
  • Sage 100 Contractor experience
  • Acumatica experience
  • Experience with Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate, Viewpoint Vista, CMiC, Foundation, Jonas, or another comparable construction accounting ERP
  • Experience supporting more than one full ERP implementation
  • Experience with specialty subcontractors or service contractors
  • Construction and/or union payroll experience
  • ERP report writers, Power BI, SQL, or other reporting tools
  • Experience creating procedures, user guides, or standard operating procedures
  • Prior ERP consulting experience
ABOUT THE PLATFORMS
  • Sage 100 Contractor is a primary platform used in this role, and Acumatica continues to be an important part of Syscon’s Business Applications practice.
  • Experience with either is valuable, but we are also interested in candidates who bring strong construction accounting knowledge and meaningful experience in another comparable construction ERP system.
  • Procore, Buildertrend, ServiceTitan, FieldEdge, ServiceTrade, CRM systems, and project management software can be useful supporting experience, but they do not by themselves replace experience with a construction accounting ERP system.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKEA successful Construction Accounting ERP Consultant understands both the accounting process and how the ERP supports it.
  • You can follow a construction accounting transaction through the system and understand its impact on job cost, billing, payroll, general ledger, reporting, and financial results
  • You ask questions and investigate before jumping to an answer
  • You can explain complex accounting or system issues in language a client can understand
  • You train users in a way that helps them become more independent
  • You follow through, document your work, and keep clients informed
  • You learn from mistakes, accept feedback, and apply what you learn
  • You continue developing your expertise rather than relying only on what you already know
WHY SYSCON
  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience, with details shared during the interview process
  • Fully remote work with a consistent Monday through Friday schedule
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • SIMPLE IRA with company match
  • Dedicated support from IT, Business Applications, and scheduling teams
  • A collaborative, low drama team committed to knowledge sharing and continuous learning
  • The opportunity to work with a variety of construction companies and accounting challenges
READY?
  • Submit your application and complete the application questionnaire.
  • Please be prepared to share specific examples of construction accounting processes you have personally owned or supported, ERP implementations you have participated in, and end users you have trained.
  • Selected candidates will be contacted for a conversation about their background and experience.
Syscon also operates as a Managed Services Provider and IT consulting firm, so you will work alongside a broader team across IT, Business Applications, and client support.
To help protect applicants from recruiting scams, Syscon does not make job offers without an interview process and will not request banking information, credit card information, payment, or money transfers as part of the application or interview process.
  • Please, no phone calls regarding this position.
Syscon, Inc. is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace.
