Job Description

Position Summary:
The Conflicts Department is responsible for preparing conflict reports, opening of all new matters, maintaining related documentation, and administering ethical walls. The Conflicts Assistant supports the Firm's Conflicts Department by working closely with the Conflicts Manager or Supervisor on a daily basis and interacting regularly with the Conflicts and Compliance Attorneys and Conflicts Analysts.

Primary Responsibilities and/or Essential functions:

  • Support the Firm's conflicts and professional responsibility function by assisting in the analysis and preparation of conflict reports and new matter and supplemental matter intake requests.
  • Review, organize, and maintain engagement terms, correspondence, and other compliance materials, working with Conflicts & Compliance Attorneys to ensure compliance with all applicable standards and policies.
  • Conduct conflictsrelated research and analysis involving applicable entities, including processing supplemental conflict requests when additional parties are introduced to existing matters.
  • Assist in the administration and ongoing maintenance of ethical walls, legal screens, and other restrictions, including processing requests for clearance and periodic review and research to assess the current and going forward status of restrictions.
  • Correspond with and guide and assist attorneys and other professional staff to ensure consistency and compliance with procedures and processing for new matter intake, attorney departures, and other applicable Firm policies and guidelines.
  • Manage and maintain conflicts and new matter inboxes and databases, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely followup on pending matters to support efficient attorney review and decisionmaking.
  • Collaborate with the Conflicts team colleagues to retrieve, analyze, and organize documentation in support of legal risk assessments.
  • Conduct ad-hoc research and analysis as needed.
  • Support special projects related to Firm-wide conflicts and compliance initiative, and risk management.
  • Other responsibilities as required by management.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Conflicts experience in a Law Firm preferred.
  • Candidate should be detail oriented, organized, and excellent communication skills.
  • Strong research, record keeping, and database management skills, and familiarity with MS Word and Excel are a plus.
  • Good decision making skills and handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.
  • Self-starter; ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressured environment.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours as necessary, rotating weekend and holiday remote coverage with other team members.

Education/Certifications:

  • BA/BS with strong academic record
  • 1+ year of experience in a professional or legal office environment preferred
  • Legal research experience related to the skills or duties described above.

Estimated salary range is $60,000- $70,000.Compensation decisions within the range are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case including but not limited tothe individual's skills, experience, and qualifications.
