Job description

Position Description:

Valparaiso University is seeking a Head Coach for its Women's Tennis program. This position is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of a competitive NCAA Division I program while supporting the University's mission of academic and athletic excellence. The role requires a strong commitment to student-athlete development, compliance, and efficient program management.


Major Responsibilities:

Coaching & Program Oversight

  • Plan and conduct practices, matches, and skill development sessions within a limited schedule.
  • Develop competitive strategies to maximize team performance in conference and non-conference play.
  • Provide individual instruction and mentorship to student-athletes.

Recruiting

  • Identify and recruit qualified prospective student-athletes in compliance with NCAA rules.
  • Manage recruiting efforts strategically to align with part-time expectations and program needs.
  • Coordinate campus visits and maintain communication with recruits and families.

Student-Athlete Support

  • Monitor academic progress and promote academic success.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive team culture focused on personal growth and accountability.
  • Support student-athlete well-being and leadership development.

Compliance & Administration

  • Ensure full compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations.
  • Manage program operations, including scheduling, travel coordination, and equipment needs.
  • Work collaboratively with athletic department staff on administrative responsibilities.

Program Representation

  • Represent Valparaiso University professionally on campus and in the broader community.
  • Assist with alumni engagement and limited fundraising initiatives as appropriate.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Collegiate, professional, or high-level coaching and/or playing experience.
  • Bachelor's degree

Other Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and recruiting practices.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage responsibilities effectively.
