What Does a Computer Science Professor Do?
A computer science professor teaches at a technical college or university. You create and teach courses in computer science (CS) or related programming or technology subjects. In this career, you prepare the syllabus for each class, deliver lectures and instructions, and use exams and quizzes to assess the performance of students. In many computer science classes, your responsibilities include allowing students to practice the subject matter in a computer lab. You facilitate this practice and offer guidance during lab sessions. In addition to your teaching duties, you sometimes give academic or career advice to students in CS degree programs.

Job Description
The Department of Computational, Engineering, and Mathematical Sciences at Texas A&M University-San Antonio (A&M-SA) seeks applications from qualified candidates, with a passion for teaching and scholarship, for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position for the Cyber Engineering Technology & Computer Science programs. Excellence in teaching at all levels of the curriculum, participation in grant writing and funded research projects, and ability to collaborate with colleagues on curricular and programmatic issues is expected. Growth of the two master's programs in Cybersecurity and Computer Science is a priority for the university. The base teaching load at A&M-SA for Assistant Professors is 3/3. Summer teaching assignments may be available but are not guaranteed. Service to the department, college, university, and community is expected.
A&M-SA is committed to excellence. We recruit faculty that enhance the breadth, depth, and quality of our students' educational experience by providing a variety of role models and mentors for our student population. Such faculty help us attract, retain, and graduate students more successfully. In this context applicants should address, in their cover letter, how their life experiences, work history, professional engagement, and relevant community engagement will contribute to the success of our students, and what the applicants' plans are for serving our student population.
The Department provides a rich educational experience for students interested in computer science, cybersecurity, engineering technology, and mathematics. We offer bachelor's degree programs in these disciplines as also support courses in physics for STEM majors. In addition, we offer two master's degree programs, one each in Cybersecurity and Computer Science. Our students enjoy learning in person and in online/hybrid courses in high-tech classrooms. We emphasize hands-on experiential learning and critical thinking, and the participation of students in research under our faculty's mentorship. Details of the graduate and undergraduate programs (in separate tabs under the College of Arts and Sciences) can be found on the online catalog at: https://catalog.tamusa.edu/.
