A full-time permanent position is available for a structural engineer (non-engineer could be considered) to join our team. The successful applicant will be working alongside an industry-leading team of experts who provide highly specialized design and product solutions for the light-framed wood & cold-form steel construction industries. The position is an in-office hybrid position which can be based out of the Mirabel, Quebec location.

The design engineer (or non-engineer) will be actively involved in the design, analysis and detailing of structural wood roof/floor truss components for projects ranging from residential buildings to large, complex commercial and agricultural structures. This role is ideal for P.Eng candidates who have an interest in being part of a software technology ecosystem which combines structural engineering design practice with building information modeling (BIM) software technologies.

Job Responsibilities & Requirements

  • Design of structural wood trusses based on CSA O86 and TPIC-2019 Design Standards

  • Design of steel components based on CSA S16.1 and CSA S136.

  • 3D structural software modelling and design, including connection design, framing specifications

  • Design of field modification details for retrofits of existing structural systems

  • Client facing design support and establishing expert-level usage of MITEK's 2D/3D BIM software

  • Product Development / Product testing as required

  • Optional Minimal travel (0%-5%)

  • Deplacements minimums (optionnel, de 0a 5% du temps)

Knowledge, Credentials and Experience

  • P.Eng. registered professional Engineer in good standing licensed to practice engineering in the province of Quebec (eventually all 4 maritime provinces too) is ideal

  • Minimum five years of experience in the building construction industry, the light-frame wood truss industry, steel design industry or the engineered wood product (EWP) industry

  • Demonstrated knowledge of structural framing practices a`s they relate to wood construction

  • Working knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada as well as regional provincial codes

  • Expert-Level software learning abilities with advanced knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel

  • Must be able to fluently communicate in French and English.

  • Working Knowledge of Cold-Form-Steel design codes and practices is an asset

  • Must be able to interact with different types of stakeholders of varying technical knowledge

  • Must be a self-starter with an ability to balance independent work with minimum supervision, while being a contributing member of a highly skilled technical team

  • Must be comfortable educating customers of MiTek engineering processes and technical and codes/standards material

  • Capacite a apprendre de nouveaux logiciels a un niveau expert et connaissance avancee des outils de la suite bureautique MS Office, notamment Excel

  • En mesure de communiquer couramment en francais et en anglais

  • Connaissances et mise en pratique des codes de conception pour l'acier plie a froid un atout

  • Interactions avec differents types d'intervenants presentant des connaissances techniques variees
