WestLand is adding Environmental Compliance Monitors to our Southwest team! The Environmental Compliance Monitor observes construction activities to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permit requirements, and project-specific environmental plans. Responsibilities include conducting site inspections, construction monitoring, documenting compliance status, providing guidance to construction crews, and reporting findings to project management. The position requires knowledge of environmental regulations, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in field conditions for extended periods. This position will be on-call (1-2 days per week) supporting projects local to the Yuma, Arizona region.
What will I be doing?
  • Conduct monitoring of construction activities to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permit conditions.
  • Monitor implementation of erosion and sediment control measures, spill prevention protocols, and other environmental protection practices.
  • Document inspection findings, including photographs and written reports, and communicate results to project management.
  • Advise construction crews on corrective actions to address environmental compliance issues.
  • Coordinate with project management and contractors regarding compliance matters.
  • Maintain accurate inspection logs, reports, and related documentation.
  • Report any environmental incidents or non-compliance to the Project Manager immediately.
  • Support environmental training for construction crews as needed.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials on site.
  • Assist in preparing final environmental compliance reports for project closeout.
  • Participate in or complete biological field surveys as needed.

Job Specific Details:
  • This role includes per diem due to the remote nature of the worksite(s)
  • Thie role will utilize a company provided work vehicle
  • This role may endure periods of furlough as work sites wind down and others need time to ramp up

What qualifications are required for this role?
  • Associates degree with a focus on Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or related field. High school diploma or equivalent with relevant work experience may substitute educational component
  • Zero (0) to two (2) years of experience in environmental monitoring or related work preferred
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations
  • Experience in environmental monitoring, compliance monitoring, or related field preferred
  • Observational and documentation skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with construction personnel, project managers, and regulators
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for preparing reports and documentation
  • Organizational and time management skills

The wage range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hour.
