Job description

Master the Market: Shape the Future of Construction Tech as our Competitive Landscape Manager!

Ready to turn competitive intelligence into a strategic weapon? As our Competitive Specialist, you'll bridge the gap between technical performance and business strategy, operationalizing a world-class evaluation framework. You will orchestrate global testing efforts across CTCT, Caterpillar, and Trimble, transforming complex data into the insights that define our product roadmap and maintain our edge as a global industry leader.

About Caterpillar Trimble Control Technologies (CTCT)

The CTCT division (a joint venture between Trimble and Caterpillar) develops positioning, control, and automation products for earthmoving and paving machines in the construction and mining industries, using technologies such as GNSS, optical total stations, lasers, and sonics. The products are used in a range of applications where the operator of the machine benefits from having accurate horizontal and vertical guidance. For more information on currently developed products, see http://construction.trimble.com/earthworks.

What Makes This Role Great: In this high-impact individual contributor role, you serve as the definitive Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the global competitive landscape. You aren't just observing the market; you are operationalizing a brand-new evaluation framework and transforming it into standard practice. By acting as the central liaison between CTCT, Caterpillar, and Trimble, you will influence the strategic direction of our technology, identifying critical product gaps and defining the customer value drivers that shape the future of heavy civil construction.

Key Exciting Responsibilities

  • Operationalize Excellence: Move our competitive evaluation framework from high-level concept to standardized, world-class testing protocols that thoughtfully leverage AI.

  • Orchestrate Global Testing: Coordinates specialized internal teams-from hardware to user experience-for the purpose of deep-dive competitive evaluations.

  • Validate Performance: Plan and execute hands-on technical assessments of CTCT and competitive systems to prove real-world performance claims.

  • Drive Strategic Insight: Distill complex technical findings into clear, persuasive narratives that guide executive leadership on where to focus development efforts.

  • Own the Intelligence: Lead monthly cross-functional calls, govern the global competitive database, and build the AI assistance needed to ensure our intelligence is always accurate, actionable, and accessible.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Technical Mastery: You can confidently operate and troubleshoot machine control systems, GNSS hardware, and construction software.

  • Collaborative Coordinator: You have a proven ability to align decentralized teams and drive reporting consistency without needing direct authority.

  • Strategic AI Integrator: You have a strong interest in AI and have experience leveraging it to help improve complex processes and procedures.

  • Data Integrity Champion: You possess an impeccable eye for detail, ensuring every data point in our competitive database is precise.

  • Self-Authored Success: You are a highly motivated professional who thrives when working autonomously and managing multiple complex timelines.

Bonus Points For

  • Prior experience in heavy civil construction or the machine control industry.

  • Deep domain expertise in 2D/3D grade control and onsite connectivity.

  • Creative problem-solving skills, such as developing workarounds to test competitive systems on non-native machines.

  • Intense curiosity about the machine control industry and how we can best meet the needs of customers.

Logistics

  • Location: Dayton, OH or Christchurch, New Zealand; In-Office.

  • Travel Requirement: less 20%
