Position: Fall Cheerleading Coach (Football Sideline & Game Day Competitive Cheer)
Position Overview:
Akron High School is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and student-centered Cheerleading Coach to
lead our Football Sideline Cheer and Game Day Competitive Cheer programs. The successful candidate
will foster school spirit, sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and athletic excellence while providing a
positive and safe environment for student-athletes.
The coach will be responsible for planning and conducting practices, preparing athletes for football
game performances and competitive cheer events, and promoting the overall growth and success of the
cheerleading program. Akron Athletics sponsors both Football Cheerleading and Game Day Competitive
Cheer opportunities for student-athletes.
Required Certifications:
  • Previous cheerleading coaching and/or game day competitive cheer experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of current cheerleading safety standards and techniques.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to motivate and mentor student-athletes.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Must meet all district and state coaching certification requirements.

Preferred Qualification:
  • Experience coaching both sideline and game day competitive cheer programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and grow a successful cheerleading program.
  • Experience choreographing game day competition routines and preparing teams for game day competitive events.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Organize and supervise all practices, games, competitions, and team activities.
  • Teach cheerleading fundamentals, stunting, tumbling, motions, jumps, game-day performance
    skills, and competition routines.
  • Develop and implement a season-long training plan for both sideline and game day competitive cheer.
  • Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and academic success.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
  • Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, school administration, and athletic department personnel.
  • Maintain compliance with district, league, section, and state athletic regulations.
  • Coordinate uniforms, equipment, fundraising activities, and team events as needed.
  • Attend required athletic department meetings and professional development opportunities.
