Concordia University is needing a Competitive Cheer Coach who wants to be a part of this mission. The main campus (and this role) is located in Seward, Nebraska. This position can be full-time or part-time. Benefits will vary based on position hours. Must be 19 years of age to apply.
Position Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the spirit coordinator and the assigned athletic administrator, this position is responsible for the administration, financial management, and development of the competitive cheer program and responsible for the recruitment and coaching of the competitive cheer team. This position will manage the resources provided by the university to support the essential components of the program and is actively involved in fundraising for program enhancements. This position will work in collaboration with the Head Dance Coach/Spirit Coordinator and will abide by the rules and regulations established by CUNE, the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics).
This position will be paired with other duties within the athletic department if full-time. The competitive cheer coach should be committed to an environment of encouragement, teamwork, and excellence within a Christian University.
Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the administration, financial (including fundraising) and coaching requirements of the program/activity.
  • Responsible for creating an environment which is consistent with the values of the university and fosters the development of the student-athletes. This environment is one of encouragement, teamwork, and excellence; one which is to build student-athletes character positively.
  • Responsible for recruiting student-athletes who contribute to the realization of the program objectives academically, athletically, and spiritually.
  • Recruit prospective student-athletes who adhere to the NAIA Champions of Character initiatives and who strive for academic achievement, competitive greatness, and spiritual/character development.
  • Responsible for keeping abreast of NAIA and GPAC developments in competitive cheer.
  • Accountable for the program's annual operating budget as approved by the Athletic Director and Cabinet.
  • Responsible for promoting the program both on and off-campus, including promotion through print medium and social media by working within the Marketing guidelines.
  • Responsible for fundraising to assist in budget support for travel and national competition.
  • Actively participates with the Associate Athletic Director to design and implement ongoing retention strategies for the competitive cheer program.
  • Assists during dance practices/competitions on occasion throughout the season when requested.
  • Fosters, assists, and leads interactions that inspire spiritual and character development through one-on-one student and staff relations and that build a cohesive and positive team culture at the university.

Qualifications:
Education-
  • Bachelor's degree required.

Experience-
  • Experience in higher education preferred.
  • Experience relevant to position functions.
  • 2-3 years of experience with teaching cheer helpful.
  • Experience with competing (UDA or NDA competitive experience preferred).

Certifications-
  • Minimum USA Cheer coaching and certification base level courses.
  • Additional levels of USA Cheer coaching courses preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.

Specialized Knowledge-
  • Knowledge of athletic recruitment methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of NAIA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
  • Knowledge and appreciation for the Great Plains Athletic Conference and its members.
  • Familiarity with web publishing software helpful.

Proficiencies-
  • Proficiency in the use of software applications including Microsoft applications, databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Skills in budget preparation and management.

Special Position Requirements:
  • Able to lead and guide NAIA student-athletes in area of specialty.
  • Able to make administrative, procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Able to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
