Job description

Love connecting with people and making a difference? Join Crossroads YMCA as our Director of Community Relations! You'll build partnerships with local businesses and help employees discover the power of wellness and belonging. Apply today and grow community, connection, and your career!
Director of Community Relations: At the YMCA, this role connects mission with growth. As Director of Community Relations, you will build partnerships with businesses, civic leaders, and community organizations while expanding access to YMCA programs and driving corporate membership growth.
What you can expect:
This is a highly external, relationship-focused role. You will spend a significant portion of your time in the community meeting with executives, attending networking events, and representing the YMCA to potential partners.
In a typical week, you may prospect new business, lead presentations with HR leaders or executives, follow up on partnership opportunities, and track progress within your sales pipeline. You will also work closely with internal teams to ensure that once a partnership is secured, the onboarding experience is smooth and employees feel welcomed and engaged.
This role blends consultative sales with mission-driven work. You will need to clearly communicate the value of YMCA membership in ways that align with organizational priorities such as employee wellness, engagement, and retention.
You will manage multiple relationships at different stages, from initial outreach to long-term engagement. Success in this role requires persistence, organization, and the ability to maintain momentum over time.
This role is a great fit for you if:
  • You enjoy building relationships and spending time in the community
  • You are confident presenting to and engaging with senior leaders and decision-makers
  • You are motivated by goals and comfortable being accountable for growth results
  • You can connect business needs with mission-driven solutions
  • You are organized and able to manage a full pipeline of opportunities
  • You thrive in a role with variety, autonomy, and external visibility
This role may not be a good fit if:
  • You prefer a primarily internal or desk-based position
  • You are uncomfortable with sales, outreach, or initiating new relationships
  • You want highly predictable days with minimal variability
  • You are not interested in attending events or networking regularly
  • You prefer short-term tasks over long-term relationship building
  • You are not motivated by performance goals or measurable outcomes
The reality of the role:
What's rewarding:
  • Building partnerships that expand access to YMCA programs
  • Seeing your work directly impact community health and well-being
  • Representing a mission-driven organization in visible, meaningful ways

What's challenging:
  • Maintaining a consistent pipeline and meeting growth targets
  • Working through longer sales cycles and organizational decision processes
  • Balancing external relationship-building with internal coordination

Bottom line:
This role is best suited for a confident, relationship-driven professional who can connect with leaders, communicate value clearly, and turn partnerships into lasting community impact.
