Community Outreach Specialist

Administration Office, Galveston, Texas Full-Time / Exempt

JOB SUMMARY

The Community Outreach Specialist is responsible for overseeing all aspects of community outreach and violence awareness efforts for the Resource and Crisis Center of Galveston County, Inc. (RCCGC). These duties involve domestic violence and sexual assault awareness involving youth engagement; community education; awareness building; volunteer participation recruitment, training, supervision, and scheduling; special event planning; participation in marketing and fundraising for direct services programs coordination; and organization and promotion of the direct intervention services that RCCGC provides. Additionally, this position will be responsible for supporting the Executive Director and Development and Outreach Manager with marketing and public relations communications by way of news outlets (digital media, social media, website and print), and providing information about RCCGC through presentations in public forums.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Develop and facilitate educational seminars, public presentations, and professional trainings on domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and related topics for client participants, professionals, and the general community.
  • Assist with planning and executing fundraising events, donation drives, and special events that support RCCGCs direct intervention and services programs.
  • Prepare and submit timely and organized monthly grantor reports and maintain required statistical data for local, county, and state victim services.
  • Support marketing and public relations efforts by assisting with the development and implementation of the agencys marketing plan, and promoting RCCGC's image and brand in the community.
  • Build and maintain relationships with donors, supporters, and community partners by participating in community functions, identifying new support opportunities, and helping retain existing supporters.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and schedule volunteers to meet inter-departmental needs and maintain up-to-date volunteer training materials.
  • Organize volunteer recognition initiatives and provide internal educational opportunities for staff and volunteers.
  • Establish and strengthen partnerships with libraries, universities, civic/service organizations, and allied professionals to promote RCCGCs mission and programming in the communities served.
  • Represent RCCGC at conferences, fairs, and community events, delivering public speeches and facilitating information booths and external trainings.
  • Coordinate and lead community awareness campaigns, such as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and National Crime Victims Rights Week.
  • Conduct community assessments and outreach to identify needs, particularly among underserved populations, and implement tailored awareness and intervention strategies.
  • Facilitate community change efforts including coalition building, policy education, social norms change, and community mobilization.
  • Engage in professional development through continued education and annual outreach trainings to stay informed of best practices in victim services.

WORK SCHEDULE Forty (40) hours per week, Monday through Friday as discussed with the department manager on scheduling, where occasional weekend and evening hours may be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to operate various office machines and/or equipment; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to speak and hear clearly. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift approximately 20 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to drive and possess a valid Texas drivers license. The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job which is primarily an office environment.

SUPERVISOR AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY This position reports to the Development and Outreach Manager. There are no direct reports to this position.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Required:

  • Bachelors degree in Social Services, Education, or a related field in socio-economic development; will consider a combination of college coursework in education/development and minimum two (2) years of work experience in social services or a related field.
  • Must possess an active, valid, state-issued driver license.
  • Demonstrated experience in special event development and promotion, and in volunteer recruitment and management.
  • Knowledge of issues surrounding domestic violence and sexual assault a plus.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Advanced computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), including experience with contact list databases.
  • Experience with graphic design applications is a plus (example Canva).
  • Must be able to travel to meetings, other locations and work sites.
  • Strong communication skills - verbal and written; attentive listener.
  • Highly organized and efficient worker; skilled at multi-tasking.
  • Ability to manage priorities, multiple projects, workflow and meet deadlines.
  • Professional integrity, sense of responsibility and accountability.
  • Must understand and embody RCCGCs mission and culture and the ability to maintain appropriate rapport and boundaries with staff and volunteers in all circumstances.
  • Possesses effective inter-personal skills and the ability to relate well with individuals from a variety of socio-economic and cultural groups.
  • Clearance of a criminal background check.
