The Opportunity

Thayer Lumber is seeking a Lumber Manufacturing Labourer to support daily yard, mill, and shipping operations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys physical work, has strong attention to detail, and is comfortable working both indoors and outdoors year-round. The position includes material handling, operating woodworking equipment, supporting manufacturing processes, and assisting customers with orders and loading materials. Previous forklift experience is preferred, while experience working with lumber, saws, tools, or other wood-handling equipment is considered a strong asset.


Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all PPE, safety, and environmental procedures.
  • Complete pre-shift equipment checks and report hazards immediately.
  • Use lock-out/tag-out for saws and machinery when required.
  • Participate in safety huddles, 5S, and seasonal tasks (snow/ice removal).

Material Handling & Equipment Operation

  • Safely operate forklifts and woodworking equipment (band, chop, radial arm saws).
  • Load and unload trucks and customer vehicles.
  • Assist with equipment setup, blade changes, and basic maintenance.
  • Handle lumber and manufactured wood products safely and efficiently.

Manufacturing & Shipping Support

  • Support lumber cutting, processing, and order preparation.
  • Stage, package, and wrap materials accurately.
  • Verify paperwork (BOLs, pick tickets) and report discrepancies.
  • Assist with local deliveries when required.

Yard, Warehouse & Housekeeping

  • Maintain clean, organized yard and warehouse areas.
  • Restock racks, clear aisles, and support basic groundskeeping.
  • Participate in 5S and continuous improvement activities.

Customer Service & Communication

  • Assist customers in the yard with professional, courteous service.
  • Communicate material issues or equipment concerns promptly.
  • Support cross-training and other operational areas as needed.


What You Bring

  • Experience working with wood, lumber, woodworking tools, or saws.
  • Comfort with indoor/outdoor physical work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform active tasks throughout the shift.
  • Forklift certification
  • Familiarity with OHSA, WHMIS, and lock-out/tag-out procedures.
  • Strong material handling skills and attention to detail.
  • Reliable, team-oriented, and committed to safe work practices.
  • Strong communication skills, including customer interaction.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
