How much do commission advertising sales jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 16, 2026, the average yearly pay for commission advertising sales in the United States is $83,313.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $75,000.00 and $92,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Are commission-based sales jobs worth it?

Commission-based advertising sales jobs can be financially rewarding for those with strong sales skills and the ability to build client relationships, as income depends on performance. However, they often lack guaranteed income and require persistence, self-motivation, and resilience to succeed in a competitive environment.

Is it better to be salaried or commissioned?

For a commission advertising sales role, being paid on commission can offer higher earning potential based on sales performance, while a salary provides consistent income and stability. Many sales positions combine both, offering a base salary plus commissions to balance risk and reward. The best option depends on individual sales skills, risk tolerance, and the company's compensation structure.

What sales job pays the highest commission?

Commission advertising sales roles often offer high earning potential, especially in industries like digital advertising, media sales, and software sales. Top performers can earn significant commissions, sometimes exceeding six figures annually, particularly when selling high-value advertising packages or enterprise solutions. Success depends on skills, client base, and sales volume.

What's the typical commission for a sales job?

In commission advertising sales roles, typical commissions range from 10% to 30% of the sales revenue generated. The exact percentage depends on the industry, company policies, and the sales structure, with some roles offering tiered or performance-based commissions. Successful salespeople often combine commissions with base salaries or bonuses.
