Job description

The Director of Cloud is responsible for defining and leading the enterprise cloud strategy, architecture, transformation roadmap, and operational excellence of cloud platforms across the organization. This leader ensures the secure, scalable, and cost efficient adoption of cloud technologies while driving modernization, automation, and innovation across infrastructure, applications, and operations. The role requires deep technical expertise in cloud ecosystems and significant leadership experience driving transformation, organizational change, and enterprise wide modernization initiatives.

Position Responsibilities May include:

  • Develop and execute the enterprise cloud strategy aligned with corporate objectives and under the guidance of the Vice President of IT and senior leadership.
  • Lead cloud architecture, engineering, operations, and governance across multiple cloud platforms.
  • Drive transformation initiatives including cloud migration, application modernization, infrastructure automation, and platform scalability.
  • Establish and oversee cloud governance models—including cost management, security controls, policy enforcement, and compliance frameworks.
  • Partner with Cybersecurity, Data Engineering, Enterprise Architecture, and Application teams to ensure cloud systems are secure, resilient, and compliant.
  • Lead cloud reliability engineering (SRE), DevOps, and platform automation practices.
  • Evaluate emerging cloud technologies, tools, and vendors; recommend solutions based on business needs, ROI, and future‑state architecture direction.
  • Define cloud operating models, delivery frameworks, and strategic roadmaps for enterprise cloud adoption.
  • Build and lead a high‑performing cloud organization—including cloud architects, engineers, DevOps teams, and platform specialists.
  • Drive enterprise‑wide cloud literacy, adoption readiness, and organizational change management.
  • Establish KPIs, reporting dashboards, and operational health metrics for cloud platforms and initiatives.
  • Represent cloud strategy, progress, and operational performance to executive leadership and cross‑functional forums.
  • Manage vendor partnerships, strategic alliances, and cloud service provider relationships.
  • Perform additional duties and initiatives that support ongoing business needs.

Nature & Scope:

  • Develops and implements strategic plans and objectives for the department/sub-function in an effective and innovative fashion
  • Understands the business and can put together comprehensive department solutions
  • Works with other leaders to establish strategic plans and works towards achieving them
  • Provides leadership and direction to managers in their respective division/department
  • Sees to department staffing needs (e.g. interviewing, hiring, new hire and ongoing training, annual evaluations, etc.)
  • Participates in budget development and monitoring of expenses
  • Level of signing authority established by company policy/guidelines

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Deep expertise in cloud platforms (primarily AWS and Azure), including compute, networking, storage, security, identity, and platform services.
  • Extensive experience with cloud architecture frameworks, infrastructure‑as‑code, automation, CI/CD, DevSecOps, and SRE disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security, zero‑trust principles, identity and access management, encryption, and compliance standards.
  • Experience implementing cloud governance models, FinOps/cost‑optimization practices, and multi‑cloud management.
  • Knowledge of modern application patterns (microservices, containers, Kubernetes, serverless) and integration ecosystems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead enterprise transformation and change management programs.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and executive influence skills.
  • Advanced analytical, architectural, and problem‑solving abilities.

Experience:

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in cloud engineering, cloud architecture, infrastructure, DevOps, or related fields.
  • 8+ years leading high‑performing technical or transformation teams.
  • Proven track record implementing cloud solutions and transformations at enterprise scale.

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • Cloud certifications preferred (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect Expert, AWS Solutions Architect Professional, Google Professional Cloud Architect).
