Job description

Apex is expanding its Environmental Practice and seeking a Client Service Leader to build and grow our environmental portfolio of engineering, remediation, investigation, due diligence, hazardous building materials, and supporting our infrastructure engineering natural resources projects Western Washington.

This is a strategic growth role for a senior, client-facing professional with a strong network of municipal and/or private clients and an active book of business. The successful candidate will lead business development and project delivery for projects throughout the Pacific Northwest, supported by Apex's national resources and multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Market Growth & Leadership

  • Lead the growth of Apex's environmental services within the Pacific Northwest market.
  • Develop and execute a strategic plan to expand relationships with municipal, utility, public and private sector clients.
  • Leverage existing client relationships and your market insight to establish Apex as a trusted regional partner.
  • Collaborate with Divisional and Regional Leadership to align local efforts with Apex's broader environmental strategy.

Client Development & Relationship Management

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to municipal, utility and private clients, understanding their priorities and funding mechanisms.
  • Identify and pursue new project opportunities, lead proposal development, and manage interview and negotiation processes.
  • Drive cross-selling of Apex's complementary infrastructure (civil, transportation, structural) natural resource, hazardous building materials, and safety compliance services.
  • Represent Apex at professional associations, technical committees, and industry conferences.

Project Delivery & Fiscal Oversight

  • Oversee delivery of environmental projects including due diligence, site investigation, site remediation, stormwater management, and hazardous waste management.
  • Ensure technical excellence, quality control, and adherence to scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and QA/QC oversight to project teams.
  • Manage project performance, including backlog, utilization, and profitability metrics.

Team Building & Mentorship

  • Recruit, mentor, and develop engineers, project managers, and technical staff to grow Apex's local presence.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on client satisfaction and technical excellence.

What we're looking for:

  • BS or MS Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or relevant discipline
  • 15+ years of experience in municipal infrastructure
  • Registered Professional Engineer preferred in WA, OR or ID
  • Site investigation and remediation, can be geo/hydro/engineer but someone that understands and operates in the space
  • Stormwater management experience and compliance
  • Hydrogeologist is preferred
  • Phase I, Phase II, Due Diligence, Regulatory tasks
  • Demonstrated success in developing new markets, securing key municipal clients, and achieving financial growth targets
  • Strong record of mentoring, team development, and leading cross-discipline project teams
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with clients in a forward-thinking manner to drive growth and sustained performance through effective leadership
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Desire to manage and mentor all levels of staff
