This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Florida Reception Center in the Classification Department.
Our mission in the Classification Department is to ensure the effective management, rehabilitation, and progression of inmates by maintaining accurate records, providing individualized support, and fostering opportunities for personal growth through counseling, treatment programs, and work assignments, while upholding the safety, integrity, and mission of the Florida Department of Corrections.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOB DUTIES:
Join our dynamic team and make a real impact! This exciting position involves managing inmates through a collaborative case management approach, ensuring their needs are met with effective communication and resources. Key responsibilities include:
  • Manage a caseload of inmates, including those in special statuses, by evaluating reports, interviews, and records to recommend custody levels, work, and program assignments.
  • Conduct interviews with inmates, prepare progress and classification reports, and create management plans to track their needs and progress.
  • Review and update inmate files to ensure accuracy, award gain time when eligible, and maintain records in the department's database.
  • Counsel inmates, refer them to treatment or programs, and oversee their participation in work, housing, and educational assignments.
  • Respond to inmate requests, correspondence, and calls, visit confinement units as needed, and attend required training sessions.

REQUIREMENTS:
The selected candidate must meet four (4) of the six (6) below listed qualifications OR have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience in case management that uses assessments, planning, coordination, and evaluation to meet the individuals' needs.
  • Experience reviewing, auditing, analyzing, and/or proofreading data.
  • Experience applying laws, applicable rules, and procedures.
  • Experience or training in the use of the Offender Based Information System (OBIS) and/or related computer programs or applications.
  • Experience with Microsoft applications such Word, Excel, and/or PowerPoint.
  • Experience responding to grievances, inmate requests, or other correspondence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference will be given to applicants with one or more of the following qualifications:
  • Four years' experience in caseload management; or
  • Four years' experience analyzing data and/or interpreting rules/statutes.

Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
