Overview
Unified Communications Engineer (GAFB-2026-25909):
Bowhead seeks to network with a Unified Communications Engineer for an upcoming proposal effort to support the operation, maintenance, administration, and sustainment of an enterprise Cisco Unified Communications environment. The Unified Communications Engineer will provide advanced technical expertise across the Cisco collaboration infrastructure, including Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), Cisco Unified Border Element (CUBE)/Session Border Controllers, Cisco Unity Connection, SIP trunks, voice gateways, call routing, dial plans, and associated voice services. The position will be responsible for maintaining system availability, performing complex troubleshooting and fault isolation, implementing configuration changes, and supporting the integration and sustainment of enterprise voice and collaboration services.
Responsibilities
Essential functions will include:
  • Administer, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) and associated unified communications infrastructure.
  • Configure and support Cisco Unified Border Element (CUBE)/Session Border Controller functionality, SIP trunks, voice gateways, and call routing.
  • Administer and maintain Cisco Unity Connection and associated voicemail services.
  • Configure and maintain dial plans, route patterns, translation patterns, calling search spaces, partitions, device pools, and other CUCM components.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and fault isolation for voice, signaling, call-routing, endpoint, gateway, and interoperability issues.
  • Analyze SIP signaling and call flows to identify and resolve complex voice service issues.
  • Perform system configuration changes, software upgrades, patches, backups, restores, and certificate management.
  • Configure and troubleshoot Cisco IP phones, analog gateways, and other voice endpoints and associated devices.
  • Support integration between CUCM, CUBE/SBCs, PSTN/carrier services, and other enterprise communications systems.
  • Monitor system performance, availability, capacity, and alarms and take corrective action as required.
  • Maintain accurate system configurations, diagrams, inventories, technical documentation, and change records.
  • Support incident response and restoration of unified communications services during outages and other service-impacting events.
  • Coordinate with network, cybersecurity, carrier, vendor, and customer personnel to resolve technical issues and implement system changes.
  • Ensure unified communications systems are maintained in accordance with applicable DoD cybersecurity, security, configuration management, and technical requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and assistance to telecommunications technicians and other support personnel as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of telecommunications and unified communications operations.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Education (a High School diploma or GED is required at a minimum for Bowhead)
    • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
    • Additional relevant experience, technical training, and industry certifications may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Years of experience
    • Five (5) or more years of professional experience supporting enterprise telecommunications or unified communications environments.
    • Three (3) or more years of hands-on experience administering, maintaining, and troubleshooting Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) and associated Cisco collaboration technologies.
    • Demonstrated experience with CUBE/Session Border Controllers, SIP, voice gateways, dial plans, call routing, and advanced voice troubleshooting.
  • Required skills or certifications
    • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification required. Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Collaboration preferred.
    • CompTIA Security+ CE certification or other DoD 8140-compliant certification appropriate to the position required.
    • Strong working knowledge of Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), Cisco Unity Connection, and Cisco Unified Border Element (CUBE)/Session Border Controller technologies.
    • Demonstrated experience configuring and troubleshooting SIP trunks, voice gateways, dial plans, call routing, and Cisco IP endpoints.
    • Strong understanding of VoIP technologies and protocols, including SIP, RTP, TCP/IP, QoS, and associated network services.
    • Ability to analyze SIP signaling and call flows and perform advanced troubleshooting of complex voice and unified communications issues.
    • Working knowledge of system upgrades, patching, backups, certificate management, and configuration management.
    • Ability to develop and maintain technical documentation, system diagrams, configuration records, and troubleshooting procedures.
    • Ability to work independently and coordinate effectively with network, cybersecurity, vendor, and customer technical personnel.
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Public Trust level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Public Trust clearance at this location.
