Job description

Job Description:

  • Skilled Voice/Data Communications Engineer to support and maintain secure voice and data communication systems for Department of Defense (DoD) operations.
  • The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Avaya Communication Manager or Avaya Aura systems, experience with COMSEC equipment, and proven expertise designing and maintaining telecommunications systems within secure environments.
  • A Secret clearance and active CompTIA Security+ certification are required.
  • Design, implement, and support voice and data telecommunications networks, ensuring interoperability and security across classified/unclassified environments.
  • Maintain, configure, and troubleshoot Avaya Communication Manager or Avaya Aura telephony systems.
  • Provide Tier II/III support for voice systems and collaborate with network and cybersecurity teams to isolate and resolve complex system issues.
  • Ensure telecommunications compliance with DoD cybersecurity standards and participate in Information Assurance (IA) and STIG implementation.
  • Manage, inventory, and maintain COMSEC equipment (e.g., Secure Terminal Equipment [STE], Secure Telephone Units [STU-III]).
  • Develop and maintain detailed system diagrams using MS Visio and maintain up-to-date technical documentation.
  • Participate in modernization and lifecycle management of voice and data infrastructure.
  • Interface with vendors, security teams, and government personnel to coordinate installation, maintenance, and upgrades of voice/data systems.
  • Support VoIP integration, Quality of Service (QoS), encryption protocols, and secure communications configurations.
    Desired Skills and Competencies:
  • In-depth knowledge of Avaya VoIP architecture and protocols (SIP, H.323).
  • Familiarity with DoD Information Assurance standards, RMF compliance, and DISA STIG implementation for voice systems.
  • Experience in secure enclave environments (e.g., SIPRNet, NIPRNet).
  • Strong understanding of LAN/WAN networking concepts, including VLANs, QoS, and MPLS as they relate to voice/data integration.
  • Experience with telecommunications cabling standards (e.g., TIA/EIA).
  • Excellent technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently or in a team setting.
  • Familiarity with other secure voice systems and communication platforms a plus.


Required Skills and Experiences:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • A secret security clearance
  • 10+ years of directly related experience supporting Avaya Communications Manager/Aurora
    OR
    Bachelor's degree in related discipline with 8+ years of equivalent experience
  • Two years supporting COMSEC equipment STE, STU Knowledge of MS Visio

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.

    10 years of experience.
