Job description

Position Summary: The Child Care Director is directly responsible for planning, supervising, and directing the programs and activities for the St. Agatha Child Care Program.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans and oversees all programming for the after school care program as well as the summer camp.
  • Provides a child care experience for each child that allows him/her to develop at their own pace and guides each child to enhance his/her social skills, cognitive abilities and positive self-concept.
  • Ensures that the center's physical facilities comply with local, state and federal laws.
  • Ensures that the facilities are a safe and appropriate environment for children.
  • Evaluates and purchases equipment and supplies for the center or approves requests to purchase materials and equipment.
  • Develops and oversees the annual budget for the child care program and is responsible for the financial management of the program.
  • Works closely with the school principal to ensure that the child care program is best meeting the needs of the school and parish.
  • Willingness to assist during the school day with lunch/recess or other areas as needed.
  • Manages staff, develops job descriptions, interviews candidates, maintains staff development and education and manages disciplinary processes.
  • Conducts regular staff meetings and consults with staff on an individual basis as needed to maintain a positive work environment.
  • Oversees and assists in the development of appropriate lesson plans.
  • Maintains necessary and required documentation for the program.
  • Responsible for program enrollment and registration procedures.
  • Serves as the 'face' of the St. Agatha Childcare Program and manages communication with parents and the community.
  • Develops policies for the school and communicates the policies to parents.
  • Meets with parents of prospective students to determine whether the program is a good fit for the family.
  • Maintains an accurate file on each individual student.
  • Develops the marketing and advertising plan for the center in conjunction with the school principal.
  • Attends parish staff meetings and functions.
  • Attend professional meetings and conferences as needed and required.
  • Other duties as assigned by the pastor.

Qualifications

  • Age 21 or older.
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in child development, early childhood education, child psychology or a related field.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in a day care or childcare setting preferred.
  • Must have computer skills, to include proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and consistent self-discipline.
  • Must have initiative, discretion, confidentiality and judgment when making decisions.
  • Must have organizational, interpersonal, mathematical, and communication skills.
  • Current first aid, communicable disease and child abuse certificate.
  • Annual completion of required in-service training.
  • Initial Background check and every five years thereafter.
  • Successful completion of Protecting God’s Children session
