What is a chef concierge?

Chef Concierges are senior hospitality professionals responsible for assisting hotel guests with a wide range of services, such as making reservations, arranging transportation, recommending local attractions, and fulfilling special requests. They act as the main point of contact for guests who need personalized assistance during their stay. Chef Concierges often lead the concierge team and ensure high standards of guest satisfaction, drawing on their deep knowledge of the local area and established relationships with service providers. Their goal is to enhance the guest experience by anticipating needs and delivering exceptional service.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a chef concierge?

To excel as a Chef Concierge, you need in-depth knowledge of hospitality services, local attractions, and guest relations, typically supported by experience in luxury hotels and sometimes certification from organizations like Les Clefs d’Or. Familiarity with property management systems (PMS), reservation software, and CRM tools is often required. Outstanding interpersonal skills, discretion, and problem-solving abilities help you create personalized experiences and handle guest requests effectively. These combined skills are essential for delivering exceptional service, building guest loyalty, and maintaining a hotel's reputation.

How does the chef concierge collaborate with other hotel departments to enhance the guest experience?

The Chef Concierge works closely with various hotel departments, such as front desk, housekeeping, and food & beverage, to ensure seamless service for guests. By communicating guest preferences, special requests, or unique itineraries, the Chef Concierge helps other teams anticipate needs and personalize experiences. This role often involves daily briefings and regular updates to coordinate logistics for VIP guests, special events, or local tours, making teamwork and clear communication essential for success.

What is the difference between Chef Concierge vs Hotel Concierge?

While both roles involve guest services, a Chef Concierge specializes in curating exclusive experiences and personalized services in luxury settings, often with culinary knowledge. A Hotel Concierge provides general guest assistance, focusing on reservations and local information. The Chef Concierge role typically requires more specialized hospitality credentials and experience in luxury environments.

Job description

Chef Thomas Keller’s Yountville destination, The French Laundry, is looking for individuals who are enthusiastic about food, beverage and hospitality to join the team as a Concierge. The Concierge ensures the prompt, professional, and timely answering of guest inquiries. This position requires weekend and holiday availability.

Opened in 1994, Chef Keller’s three-starred Michelin restaurant remains one of the most highly regarded fine dining destinations worldwide. The French Laundry’s daily changing tasting menu is centered around seasonal ingredients—many of which are sourced from the neighboring culinary garden—prepared with French techniques.

Our team of hospitality professionals strives to set new standards in service. Qualified candidates will possess a minimum of  2 years of experience in a similar fine dining environment.

Chef Keller’s collection of restaurants is founded on a culture of mentorship and provides a solid foundation of skills to support our profession. We are proud to offer:

  • 401K with no waiting periods and the opportunity to receive up to 4.0% of your earnings as matching contributions
  • Competitive health insurance options, with employer contributions toward your premium based on the plan you choose*
  • Voluntary plans such as vision, life and AD&D insurance, accident, hospitalization, critical illness plans, pet insurance and long-term disability insurance.
  • Opportunities for growth and advancement
  • Daily family meal
  • Scholarship programs
  • Peer mentorship program
  • Employee discounts at Chef Thomas Keller’s casual properties
  • Gym membership discount

Who we are:

With more than 10 properties and 800 employees, the Thomas Keller Restaurant Group (TKRG) has grown from one restaurant to a large family of businesses.

TKRG proudly represents The French Laundry, Per Se, The Surf Club Restaurant, Bouchon Bistro, Bouchon Bakery, Ad Hoc, and RO Restaurant & Lounge. The properties and people Chef Keller inspires are known for setting new standards in cuisine, service and employment experiences. Our goal is to collaborate with talented restaurant professionals and offer opportunities to learn and grow within the hospitality profession. As we have expanded over time, the expectations that set apart our restaurants have not changed: ensuring that every guest feels special, and every guest experience is exceptional. A guest can walk into The French Laundry or one of the Bouchon Bakeries and have the most enjoyable, unique and memorable experience. A chef will find the same blue aprons and green tape in each of our kitchens—symbols of a common striving for excellence. Outside the kitchens, every action we take must reflect the generosity, nurturing and finesse within. As members of the TKRG family, we have the responsibility to ensure this consistency. Beyond it all is a mission, perhaps summed up best by Chef Keller himself. “To make people happy, one guest at a time,” he says. “That is what cooking is all about.”

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer that is committed to inclusion and diversity. We take affirmative action to ensure equal opportunity for all applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, veteran status, or other legally protected characteristics.

*Company contribution depends on your plan selection. Benefit offerings are subject to change over time.
