About the Role

The Charge Capture Coordinator is responsible for daily charge capture and revenue reconciliation for clinical revenue generating departments, as assigned. They will be responsible for resolution of department charge capture issues, conducts charge capture testing to ensure revenue capture and performs audits to ensure charge integrity. The Charge Capture Coordinator also provides ongoing education to clinical staff regarding documentation requirements and/or deficiencies that impacts the ability to accurately capture charges. The Charge Capture Coordinator demonstrates an aptitude for detailed work, strong organizational, leadership, computer and customer relations skills, and exemplary verbal/written communication skills.

POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the APC payment structure, CPT, HCPCS, and revenue coding.
  • Knowledge of APC and CMS regulations and billing rules, UB-92 claim forms, hospital outpatient billing procedures, and chargemaster.
  • Knowledge of electronic health record documentation systems and billing programs/systems.
  • Ability to provide staff education regarding documentation requirements in accordance with regulatory requirements/guidelines.
  • Ability to listen, empathize and respond to patients, families, internal and external partners, managerial and employee needs.
  • Demonstrates confidence in own skills, knowledge and ability and opportunities for personal growth and ability to accept and adapt change.
  • Demonstrates customer service skills with both internal and external customers.
  • Identifies opportunities for waste reduction and department efficiency.
  • Works as a team member through interaction, assistance and demonstration of appropriate communication skills and reporting/activation of the chain of command appropriately.
  • Demonstrates the ability to record appropriate and accurate charges to all patients in a timely manner.
  • Skilled in use of computers, internet, order entry and word processing.
  • Ability to translate medication documentation into charge codes.
  • All other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of Post-secondary training in a health-related area, such as, but not limited to: Business Office, Health Information Management or Hospital or Clinic Coding or the Revenue Cycle.
  • Two years’ experience working within a hospital business office, HIM department, Hospital or Clinic coding department or within revenue cycle departments.
