Job Description

About the Role 

As a Strategic Sales Channel Analyst, you will sit within the product team and play a key role in advancing analytics across Wellmark’s product and sales channels. While this role supports the product model, it will continue to operate as a shared-service resource, partnering broadly across Sales Operations and other business areas to deliver distribution analysis, executive reporting, and insights that inform business decisions. You will develop and enhance Power BI dashboards that help leaders understand performance, identify trends, and uncover opportunities. In addition, you will support sales compensation design, metric development, and strategic analyses that evaluate business performance, channel effectiveness, and key operational outcomes. Through your work, you will help teams establish meaningful measures of success and use data to drive informed decision-making. 

About You 

You are passionate about using data and visualization to tell a clear business story. With hands-on experience building dashboards, you know how to create visuals that help leaders quickly understand performance, identify trends, and uncover opportunities for deeper analysis. Partnering with stakeholders to define metrics, analyze business challenges, and develop data-driven recommendations comes naturally to you. You enjoy bringing structure to ambiguity and helping teams take a more strategic and disciplined approach to measuring success. Assertive, collaborative, and results-oriented, you have a proven ability to translate complex information into actionable insights and communicate effectively with both operational stakeholders and executive audiences. 

Qualifications

Preferred: 

  • Master's Degree  
  • Demonstrated history of effective consultation and presentation within the business, including senior leaders 
  • Proven experience exercising independent judgement and higher order thinking 
  • Ability to influence direction utilizing data analysis techniques/tools and translating complex data into actionable insights and compelling narratives. 

Required: 

  • Bachelor's degree or direct and applicable work experience. 
  • 4+ years of experience with data collection, analysis, reporting, and presentation. Ability to independently translate data into consumable insights that support business decisions. 
  • Demonstrated experience providing effective consulting and influencing decisions through sound judgment and data analysis to effectively drive positive business outcomes. 
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel, Access, and Business Objects, or similar tools. Technical aptitude to learn new systems quickly and produce ad hoc reports. 
  • Natural curiosity with strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Attentive to details. Proven ability to evaluate accuracy and validity of data. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate complex information to varying audiences, including key decision makers. Strong presentation skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships of collaboration and trust. Viewed as a subject matter expert and go- to resource. 
  • Ability to independently manage projects, perform effective follow through and define work plans, and business rules. Ability to document administrative methods and procedures. 
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Flexible and adaptable to change. 

Additional Information

a. Analyze performance of our distribution channels and look for opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of the various channels and support sales leadership in identification of potential shifts in strategy. Work with business stakeholders to gain a holistic view of the internal and external sales channels as an input to recommendations. Identify data critical to monitoring performance of our product teams and support the team in how various initiatives deliver value to our customers and provide data that supports prioritization.  

b. Apply distribution channel knowledge and expertise to influence and collaborate with stakeholders on execution and maintenance of sales strategies and reporting objectives to meet critical business requirements. 

c. Perform the evaluation, administration, and implementation of sales incentive plans, including performance/goals metrics, design, consulting and communication. Monitor and control Plan(s) rules, guidelines, performance measures, and weights. Identify, document, and is mediator for resolution of conflict with or compliance to Plan rules. Prepare documents, including analysis and rationale for Compensation Review Board. Partner with Finance, Sales, and Human Resource for cost/benefit evaluations and implementation of programs.  

d. Drive strategic recommendations on the performance of distribution channels including but not limited to distribution channel design and administration for agency pay for performance, minimum book of business, agent certification/recertification, new agent training, etc.   

e. Provide complete, accurate, and timely reports and analyses that can be easily used by others. Analyze and monitor Agent of Record (AOR), Special Incentive for Field Force (SPIFF), draws and other activities that affect various plans and develop quantitatively supported recommendations for modification to the Plan(s). 

f. Track and monitor data relevant to sales trends and affected compensation components. Perform routine and non-routine data gathering, report preparation for quantitative and qualitative analysis, etc. Identify trends in business segments and distribution methods to proactively formulate plans based on findings and provide information to sales and marketing teams to achieve the results laid out in business plans. 

g. Ensure consistent, accurate, and actionable information and reports (close ratios, net growth, profitability, sales & retention, etc.) are available and accessible to proper users via the web and/or on internal systems. 

h. Other duties as assigned.
