Cemetery Seasonal
JOB TITLE: Cemetery Seasonal
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt - Seasonal
DEPARTMENT: Cemetery
SUPERVISOR: Cemetery Supervisor and Cemetery Manager
SALARY: $14-$17 Per Hour
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Perform a variety of entry level labor activities in the routine maintenance of Cemetery grounds.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Under the supervision of cemetery complex full-time staff:
  • Assist in maintaining the cemetery complex: string trimming, seeding, fertilizing and turf cultivation
  • Operate and maintain string trimmers, push mowers, backpack blowers, shovels, rakes, and a variety of hand tools; Over 18 years of age, occasionally operate and maintain: UTV's, automobiles, and tractor equipment
  • Perform cemetery maintenance, including leveling and aligning memorial markers, painting, grave stabilization and the repair of uneven ground
  • Assist with the repair of underground irrigation systems.
  • Perform janitorial duties of cemetery buildings, equipment and vehicles.
  • Trash pick-up of cemetery grounds. Report all acts of vandalism or damage to buildings, grounds and equipment to full-time staff.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Perform all assigned tasks in a safe and timely manner.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner.
  • Work limited overtime hours including Saturdays, holidays, and Community Recreation and Events functions.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Punctuality and job attendance is required, except for authorized leave. This position is not eligible for remote work.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Over 18 years of age: Skills to operate powered equipment and vehicles used in grounds maintenance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and follow instructions in English.
  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time in extreme temperatures, extended exposure to sunlight, and inclement weather conditions.
  • Ability to follow instructions and perform the job to the satisfaction of the Cemetery Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB
Required:
Formal or informal education, training, or experience which ensures the ability for successful job performance. Must be at least 16 years of age at the time of application. Must be at least 18 years of age with a driver's license and a clean driving record to operate powered mobile equipment. Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. Must pass a background check and a drug test.
Preferred:
At least 18 years of age with a valid driver's license and a clean driving record. Experience in the operation of commercial grounds maintenance equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading, and writing. The employee is also required to maintain physical condition necessary for operating assigned equipment, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending or sitting for prolonged periods of time and lifting to 50 pounds. Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions demonstrating intellectual capabilities.
Working Environment:
Outdoor field environment: exposure to noise, dust, treated water, fertilizers, excessive noise, pesticides, and hazardous chemicals. Exposure to extreme temperatures, inclement weather conditions, and extended exposure to sunlight. Work around powered mobile equipment and machinery. Employee is required to traverse uneven terrain. May be required to work overtime hours including Saturdays, holidays, and Community Recreation and Events functions. Occasional contact with the general public is expected. Exposure to funerary functions.
