What is a catering temp?

Catering temps are temporary workers hired to assist with catering events such as weddings, corporate meetings, parties, and other gatherings. Their duties may include setting up and breaking down event spaces, serving food and beverages, assisting chefs, and ensuring guests have a positive experience. Catering temps are typically employed through staffing agencies or directly by catering companies and often work on an on-call or as-needed basis. This role is ideal for people seeking flexible, short-term work and those interested in the hospitality industry.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a catering temp?

To thrive as a Catering Temp, you need basic food handling knowledge, attention to cleanliness, and the ability to follow instructions, often supported by a food safety certification. Building familiarity with event layouts and menu details ahead of time can also help you provide better service and reduce stress. Being proactive and maintaining a positive attitude are key to successfully navigating the fast-paced environment of large-scale catering events.
