NMH offers an excellent opportunity for anyone considering a career in mental health to gain knowledge and experience and to learn/strengthen therapeutic skills in a multidisciplinary setting by helping people to overcome their disabilities and meet their life goals.

We are currently seeking a motivated, caring and empathetic Intern to join our Case Manager team. You will shadow a Case Manager who is responsible for actively engaging and collaborating with clients to reduce their barriers to achieving positive outcomes in critical areas of life and functioning. These areas include health, mental health, substance use as well as social determinants of health like, income, employment, health insurance and housing. Services are delivered utilizing evidence-based practices, fidelity monitoring, continuous training and an action-oriented team approach which is recovery focused and person-centered.

This Internship will allow you to learn about Newport Mental Health's person-centered assertive case management services which include but limited to triage, intake, assessment, outreach, care coordination, hospital diversion, hospital discharge planning, housing and employment navigation and warm handoffs.


Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in daily team meetings to review client visits, concerns, and coordinate care.
  • Attend meetings with clients to assist with developing recovery goals with plans to overcome potential obstacles.
  • Provide support with understanding medications and find solutions to challenges such as transportation to appointments, grocery shopping or communication with Social Security for benefits.
  • Communicate with client families and support members as part of the clientโ€™s recovery plan.
  • Ensure client housing needs are stable, including facilitating applications with Housing Authorities.
  • Participate in individual or group supervision for therapeutic and problem-solving techniques.
