Stoel Rives LLP has an immediate opening for a Business Development Specialist in either our Portland, Sacramento, or Seattle office
Stoel Rives Business Development Specialists are self-starters and strategic thinkers who have excellent written and verbal communication skills and can work across all levels of firm management. In this dynamic and exciting position, you will support some of the firm's most active industries and practices with go-to-market strategy including pitches and proposals, conferences, events, sponsorships and memberships. Travel to support industry events may be required with this role.
This Business Development Specialist ("BDS") reports to the Senior Business Development Manager supporting the Energy Industry Group. This role provides day-to-day tactical assistance to the group in support of their business development goals. The successful candidate will be a highly organized business development professional who can independently support projects, build relationships with attorneys and firm leadership, anticipate needs, and execute marketing and business development initiatives with minimal day-to-day direction.
INDUSTRY AND PRACTICE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain and curate representative matter and experience data; proactively identify opportunities to update marketing materials, practice descriptions, and attorney biographies to ensure the firm's credentials accurately reflect current capabilities.
  • Coordinate pitch and RFP responses including identifying relevant experience, drafting and editing content, conducting internal information gathering, assembling submission materials, coordinating deadlines, ensuring high-quality final deliverables, and post-pitch follow-up for ROI tracking purposes.
  • Conduct market, client, competitor and industry research to support pitches and proposals, strategic planning efforts, business development initiatives, and attorney preparation for client meetings and networking opportunities.
  • Support events, sponsorships, and client engagement plans designed to enhance attorney visibility, strengthen client relationships, and support business development objectives in partnership with the BD Manager.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with industry associations to identify sponsorship, speaking and leadership opportunities for attorneys.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Operations team on social media posts and promotion of sponsored events and speaking engagements.
  • Provide administrative support to the BD Manager, including:
    • Scheduling internal industry group meetings and tracking action items
    • Maintain marketing collateral for the assigned groups.
    • Managing industry and practice group memberships in organizations.
    • Tracking budget requests and expenses.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned by the Business Development Manager or Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer.

ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES

  • Adhere to the client service standards of the Business Development Department by contributing to best practices, systems, and processes to further the overall effectiveness and efficiencies of business development activities and client development.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint required, as well as experience working with CRM, experience management, and marketing technology platforms such as Foundation and InterAction.
  • Travel outside of residing office to assigned offices for on-site event management and execution as well as to attend firm events as needed.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications or Business-related areas or equivalent on the job experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years business development or marketing communications experience, preferably within a law firm environment.

NORMAL WORK HOURS
This position is non-exempt and is eligible for overtime compensation. Regular office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. This role is a hybrid position with three in-office days per week.

The pay range for this position is $60,000 - $106,000; however, the base compensation presented to a candidate may vary based on skills and overall experience. This salary range is based on market location.
