Founded in 2016, CMC is a full-service General Contractor firm which provides services such as construction management, design-build, and project management and manages projects with industry-leading innovation. Ranked in the Top 25 Prime Contractors, CMC is responsible for over $80 million in construction in a variety of projects including commercial, education, healthcare, civil, and development in Texas.


The Director of Business Development is responsible for developing and executing CMC Development & Construction's strategic growth initiatives by identifying new business opportunities, strengthening client relationships, expanding market presence, and leading the company's business development efforts across all operating regions.


This position provides leadership for the Business Development Department, including business development personnel, pursuit management, and marketing functions. The Director is responsible for driving revenue growth, increasing market share, and positioning CMC as the contractor of choice through proactive relationship management, strategic planning, and successful pursuit execution.

The Director of Business Development collaborates closely with Executive Leadership, Operations, and Preconstruction to ensure a seamless transition from opportunity identification through project award.


Responsibilities include:

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement the company's annual Business Development Strategic Plan.
  • Establish annual sales goals, market expansion initiatives, and client development strategies.
  • Identify emerging markets, industry trends, and new business opportunities.
  • Develop regional growth strategies for Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio.
  • Maintain a balanced pipeline of opportunities across CMC's target markets.
  • Participate in annual strategic planning and budgeting.

Client Development & Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain executive-level relationships with owners, architects, engineers, consultants, developers, and strategic partners.
  • Lead client account planning and relationship management for key accounts.
  • Schedule and conduct client meetings, project debriefs, and networking events.
  • Represent CMC at industry conferences, trade organizations, and community events.
  • Promote long-term client retention and repeat business opportunities.

Opportunity & Pursuit Management

  • Oversee the company's opportunity pipeline from lead generation through contract award.
  • Lead Go/No-Go decision meetings.
  • Ensure capture plans are developed for strategic pursuits.
  • Coordinate with Preconstruction on pursuit strategy, interview preparation, and proposal development.
  • Support interview coaching and presentation strategy.
  • Monitor pursuit performance and implement continuous improvements.

Marketing & Brand Leadership

  • Provide strategic direction for company marketing initiatives.
  • Oversee proposal strategy, branding, project announcements, social media, website content, and collateral materials.
  • Ensure consistent brand messaging across all communications.
  • Identify opportunities for industry awards, speaking engagements, and community involvement.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to strengthen CMC's market visibility.

Team Leadership

  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and lead the Business Development team.
  • Establish annual goals and performance expectations.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one coaching sessions and performance evaluations.
  • Promote accountability, collaboration, and continuous professional development.
  • Foster strong partnerships between Business Development, Marketing, Operations, and Preconstruction.

Business Intelligence & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate opportunity forecasting through the company's CRM.
  • Monitor pipeline health, proposal activity, hit rates, and revenue projections.
  • Analyze competitor activity and market conditions.
  • Present monthly business development reports and KPIs to Executive Leadership.
  • Recommend adjustments to business development strategies based on performance metrics.

Executive Collaboration

  • Work closely with Operations to maintain strong client relationships throughout project execution.
  • Collaborate with Preconstruction to align pursuit strategies with estimating and proposal efforts.
  • Support company initiatives related to strategic growth, acquisitions, partnerships, and market expansion.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to Executive Leadership on business development matters.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in business development, marketing, operations, or executive leadership within the commercial construction industry.
  • Demonstrated success developing client relationships and securing negotiated construction projects.
  • Experience leading business development teams and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of CMAR, Design-Build, Competitive Sealed Proposals, Job Order Contracting (JOC), and hard bid procurement method
  • Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience in social marketing and ad campaign development and management
